    my L didn"t look alot better than that when I took my engine apart. The cast pistons may be in much better shape than you think, and my sleeves cleaned up pretty good with a ball hone.     Looking ahead to rebuilding the engine next spring, and also have been thinking about doing a little tractor pulling with it. What could I do to compete with this tractor. I don't want to get too crazy but was thinking about boring the block for larger sleeves and pistons and an inline pump off...

    Hyd pump for big 500

    Things are looking good. I took my old pump housing apart and found pins and balls missing in the side housings. I went to to the salvage yard today and got a whole assembly in pretty nice shape for $75. I was going to put it all together tonite but I found that the pump drive sprocket shaft...

    That's great news, that just made my day. I've been kinda going through this thing fixing brakes, leaks, gen, steering, finally thought I was done and then this. Trying to get all these little things done before I tear the motor apart.

    Checked out my incredibly slow hyd pump on my 500 today and it's in pretty bad shape. Is this pump special to a 500 or do others use this pump also? Any time I need a part for this tractor it gets very frustrating.

    400 Diesel eng. block

    i would nickle rod it together and grind it smooth. I would be more concerned about the rod, if it's bent or if the brg bore is knocked out of round.

    Big 500 needs an O/H

    Been messing around with the 500 trying to get it to start without ether and get it to pull it"s own weight in 4th gear. Finally checked compression on #1 cyl and it was 300 psi.Didn"t bother checking the rest for I"m sure they are going to be close to that as well.Looks like I had better start...

    48 G rear tire size ?

    I was also leaning towards the 13.6. It has 12.4's on now. How wide of a rim should I have for a 15.5 to fit nice ?

    Wondering what tire size would look better on a G. Going to order new tires and was wondering 12.4 38's vs 13.6 38's. The tractor has fenders on it if that makes any difference. Thanks for any input.

    Case IH

    doubt that will happen, they were considering dropping large frame NH tractors a few years back because CIH was out selling NH by so much. Last time I was in Racine there was about 10 new red tractors to every one blue in the shipping yard.
