    Ballast Resistor

I have a 1950 Ford 8n 12 v. with side mount distributor. I am upgrading my ignition system with new 12 v. 3 ohm Pertronix coil, new plugs, points and condenser. New distributor cap, rotor and all new spark plug wires. In reading the instructions for the Pertronix coil, it says to remove the...

    Carburator Gaskets

When ordering a new carburetor for a 1950 ford 8n I received 3 manifold to carburetor gaskets. When installing the carburetor, are all 3 gaskets necessary or will one do?

    Hydraulic lift problems

Took your advice and after adjusting to quadrant lever to the rear the lift came up to maximum. Draft control also works. Haven't tried lift under heavy load yet but feel that it is going to be OK. Thanks a bunch HCOOKE!

    Hydraulic lift problems

Had to take hydraulic pump out of 1950 Ford 8n and replace exhaust valve. Checked lift cover and adjustments and all seemed to be within specifications. Replaced pump and cover and added oil. Started tractor and moved quadrant to top. Lift arms came up about of expected travel and then...

3 point lift stuck in up position

Hi again...Thought that I had my problems solved with the hydraulics on my 1951 Ford 8N tractor. I hooked it up to my brush mower just to test hydraulics with implement attached. Worked just fine for a bit and when I raised it to the top the last time it "stuck" at the top and will not come...

    Hydraulic lift problems

hanks JMOR...I did a pretty thorough inspection of the pump and checked the intake and exhaust valves and the pistons to make sure they were operating smoothly...all this prior to installation of the pump. But I did notice that when pusing the quadrent lever down there was quite a bit of...

    Hydraulic lift problems

Placed a new hydraullic pump in my '51 Ford 8n. Also replaced piston in lift cover cylinder. Inspected all mechanisms in lift cover and all measurements seemed to be perfect. Before work was done the lift did not work at all. After work was done, lift worked beautifully. Attached blade...

    8n tractor hesitates & dies

When pulling the throttle to accelerate, at about half way on the quadrent my 1951 Ford 8n hesitates and dies unless I pull the choke about half way. It seems to run normal and does not stall when accelerating with choke about half way out. Any ideas on how to fix this? The fuel flow is...

    Adjustment of 8N governor

Thanks Wayne... I set the throttle on the quadrant clear to the left (idle position). Both rods, throttle to governor and carburator to governor needed no adjustment to fit.

    Adjustment of 8N governor

Thanks Wayne... Ford Shop Manual FO-4 shows the setting guage and jig (EL07691) but does not mention the thickness of the guage. The 1947-1952 Ford Tractor Shop Manual calls it the GO-NO GO guage but also does not mention any measurement. Thanks for your input.

    Adjustment of 8N governor

The governor came from DS Electoronics. I may have to do what you suggest. I'm wondering if I would run into the same problem with the rebuild parts. My old governor is completely shot. Sounds like it's a "crap shoot" to find a workable governor. Any suggestions where I might find a good...
