    Voltage drop problem

Go to your local auto parts house, pick up a ballast resistor for a 55 chevy, and you'll be good to go. The coil doesn't care how many volts go to it. It only cares about current. so you need to limit the current by installing a low resistance (1-5 ohms) when swapping from 6v to 12v. Ohms law...

49 8N turns over, doesn't start, voltage drop while cranking

OK, Some tests to run. They are simple, and will tell a lot. Hook volt meter across battery terminals. Note voltage. Turn on ignition, and hit the starter, watch the voltage. It will probably drop some. How far it drops, and whether or not it stays at that lower voltage when you stop cranking...

    Might be helpful

The only time my 2N was hard to start, it had leaking manifold gasket.

    6 Volt / 12 Volt failure analysis

6v, or 12v, I don't care, as long as it works. Points, or electronic, I don't care, as long as it works. Changing from 6v to 12v is very simple. swap batteries (hook 12v neg ground), install alternator with internal regulator, bypass cut out relay, change light bulbs, and resistor on coil...

    Sherman making racket?

Well I guess there's not a kit available, so I'll buy a new pump.

    Sherman making racket?

Found the source of the noise. Strange how sound is transmitted through iron, and steel. What sounded like coming from bell housing, is actually at the other end of the engine. Now to get a water pump overhaul kit. :D

    Sherman making racket?

Yes, but it doesn't spin when clutch is engaged. ;)

    Sherman making racket?

My 2N has started making a 'roaring" sound, kinda like a dry bearing, while running. Sounds like it's coming from the sherman 2 speed. Doesn't matter what gear it's in, or if the clutch is pressed or not. Racket is still there. Actually, I assume the sherman is behind the clutch, so with the...

    Asking for a friend

Mabe, mabe not. Depends on how the owner took care of it, and documented it. Reminds me of a 1969 Corvette that sold a while back for several million dollars. It was original to the "nth" degree. except the engine was not original. It was period correct, and same as the original, but not the...

    1951 8N won t run without choke

Glad you got your problem fixed. I had a similar problem where, It would "starve" for fuel under load, (pull choke and would pick up and continue to pull) but run good otherwise. It was also hard to start. I overhauled the carb, installed new plugs, tuneup the distributor, etc. Which would...

Still a spot for an 8N on a big farm?

My granddad farmed about a section, and ranched many more, out in west texas. Along with his big IH plow pullers, he had a 2N with a brush saw attachment. It saw quite a bit of use out on the ranch land. His big old IH cab tractors were too big to get in to the places that the li'l old 2n...

    Amp meter install issue

When I converted my 2N to 12 volt, I just kept the original amp meter. I didn't even switch the wires, so it shows a discharge when it's charging. ;)

    Hydraulic three point issues

Did you disassemble and clean the valves? Had that problem with a 9N that had sat for many years un used. Valve stuck in the up position.

    Backblade....did i mess up?

We had a 7' blade for our 9N. It was heavy. So heavy that in the right situation the blade would not come up, but the front end would. ;) Now the 6' bush hog that I currently have is a tad heavier, but the 2N has a front bumper of RR track to act as counter weight. :D
