    I have a JD90 skid steer. Works well, but lately one of the hydrostat drive motors is leaking pretty bad. When parked over the winter it will drain the hydro tank. Driving I get a steady drip. The manual has pretty poor information on removing the motor. Any ideas on removal/ repair? I am...

    Well I will let everyone know how it turned out... If the cylinder is held, the nut and gland would spin. This one is different than all the other ones I have seen. There are no threads in the cylinder. This is a John Deere 90 skid steer. The nut is screwed on to the gland not the cylinder...

    Anyone good at taking hydraulic cylinders apart??

    After some cleaning and up close I just figured that out. The nut is not held to the cylinder, it is held to the center gland. Now how do I hold the gland still so I can turn the nut loose??? I see no holes in it or any way to hold it. I tried by pulling the ram up. No go... Unless I missed it.

    I have a older JD 90. One of the bucket tilt cylinders let loose. Seals leaking bad. I have cylinders off, but having trouble with the gland nut. It is has 4 notches. I don't see a spring clip like some other older cylinders. (in a slot in the side of the cylinder) I have turned the nut about 4...

    I have a JD90 also, Mine works but the valve body leaks. I am guessing yours may be a bad valve body. Did you ever fix the problem? I see the post is about 2 years old. BTW you mentioned parts available. Do you know anyone that would have a valve body??

    Since I keep finding my post... I talked to John Deere and they recommended Hy Gard low Visc or regular Hy Gard fluid for the chain case and the hydraulic system. BTW the drain and check plugs for the chain/gear cases are on the sides. I think the left check is behind the front tire and...

    Thanks for all the replies. I will start with a head gasket and see what that does. I think the air filter looked fine, but will give it a second look.
