    Running Again

    Cleaned the points and replaced the fuel and my 8n fired right up. Now to get the hydraulics working again and the horrible exhaust leak at the manifold fixed.

    What can you tell me about this tractor?

    This is a friend of mine's tractor. I only assume it is a JD because of the paint. It was her fathers tractor on a farm in Guatemala. He bought the farm in the mid 50's and acquired this tractor soon after. I know nothing else and don't have access to it to look up any numbers.

    I found a 1984 1710 for sale for $5,500 including a 5' bush hog. Is this a good deal? Tractor looks to be in great shape. Also what can this tractor handle? All I really need it for is cutting 15 acres of grass.

    Bout to give up

    Well got the starter and solenoid replaced then I didn't have spark so I adjusted the points gap and finally got spark. But now the tractor doesn't have the power it used too. I assume I am missing on one cylinder or loss compression. Almost ready to give up on this old thing and sell it for...

    Thanks. This is an original style solenoid bought from this site. Confused as to why the post that says "bat" is opposite. This is my second starter in a month so I dont want to mess it up with wiring the solenoid backwards.
