    Hydraulic leaks in 574

Under the seat, that is what I was asking. Would a clogged vent cause the seepage at all gaskets? Bill

    Hydraulic leaks in 574

My tired old 574 leaks hydraulic fluid from every gasket when it is at operating temperature. Does not leak when cold. Is there a vent that might be plugged, causing pressure to rise as it warms up? Seems like it would vent through the dip stick. How about an additive? I have checked all...

    574 power steering

Jimb2, I have been reading the archives on PS and related Hyd. problems on a 574. Before I take the splitter valve out I want to make sure that is where my problem probably lies. When the PS fails, the steering wheel turns freely but nothing happens to the front wheels, it has only happened...

    MF 165 problems

Thank you all for the comments. I have done a little research, if he has the selector valve I should be able to install remotes for $300. The power steering may be a problem. I am going to take another look at the tractor. It is a diesel. Thanks again, Bill

    MF 165 problems

Looking at a 165. Power steering does not work and it does not have remotes. Owner says he has the block for remotes and all I need is to buy the control and install. Does that sound right?? Power steering? Is that a normal problem on the 165? Am I looking at $700 for the whole works or...

    Oliver 1465

Thanks, I was interested in knowing if there were any weak spots I should look for? The 1465 is over kill for my uses, however it appears to have everything working. I had a AC 5040 with a Fiat diesel and never had a problem except when I ran it out of fuel. Bill

    Oliver 1465

I am going to look at a 1465 to replace a IH 574. What should I look for? Is the live PTO hydraulic like the IH? Should it howl in any gear? Thank you, Bill

    574 power steering

I have had the steering fail, while coming down hill, twice on my 574. The first time the Hyd. oil was low, topped it off and everything was fine. Today the steering failed and the hyd. oil is full. I had a set of plows on it and both the draft and control lever were in the up position (I...

    574 brakes

Going to bleed the brakes, there are several ways described here and in archives. Top off hyd. level, warm up the hyd. oil at 1600 rpm, open the bleeders on axles and do not pump brake peddle, wait until air bubbles stop. What is the benefit of pinching off hose on trans. hump as fallnhorse...

    574 brakes

The foot brakes are "spongy". You can pump them and get some brake. I have lost the link to the Cinci. OH Public Library shop manual. How do I adjust the brakes? and how do they work?

    calcium fill tire

The next time I load front tires I will use windshield washer fluid. Much less mess when you get a thorn. Price about the same as calcium too.

    Basic diesel question

I have a 574 with the German 239 in it. Smokes quite a bit on start up. After it is warmed up it will smoke when not under a load, but under a load it does not smoke and runs smoothly. Have found that under 1500 rpm it smokes less when not under a load. It is white smoke (unburned fuel). I...

Aux. Hyd. remotes on a 574

Upon closer examination, it appears as if the valves are in pretty bad shape. Can I replace with a $100.00 valve from Northern Tool? It appears as if they are designed for wood splitters but seem to have the volume and can handle the pressure.
