    Flywheel on 1945 model A

Mark, I have another question. When we removed the flywheel one of the splines on the end of the crank had what appeared to be a little set screw. We didn't do anything to it, but I was wondering what purpose does it serve? It sticks up above the spline about 1/8 of an inch.

    Flywheel on 1945 model A

Mark, I forgot to mention it is a hand start. Also,I marked the flywheel position on the crank before removal and I know it was re-installed in the exact same position. When we put the flywheel back on yesterday my brother and I talked about the key/pin in the flywheel and if it needed to slide...

    Flywheel on 1945 model A

A few weeks ago I removed the flywheel to clean and paint the back side. Before I removed it I noticed that the flywheel was sticking out past the end of the crank about 1/2 inch with plans to mount it back in a flush position. I put it back on yesterday and the flywheel still sticks past the...

Installing powr trol on 1945 model A

I am about ready to remove the power lift on my tractor and replace it with a powr trol unit. I don't want to get oil everywhere and need to know where/how to drain the oil before I remove the power lift unit. Also, once I have the powr trol installed what type oil should I put back in? Thanks.

    Flywheel Bolts

I took the flywheel off my 1945 model A (hand start) yesterday to clean the backside and repaint and I realized someone had replaced one of the two original square head bolts with a hex head bolt. I know it will work fine but you have to have two wrenches and it helps to have another person for...

    Clutch Fork Assembly

I got the clutch fork problem solved yesterday. As suggested the (3) bolts behind the belt pulley cover had to be backed off enough to allow the clutch fork to free up and come out so it could all be put back together and re-installed. Many thanks to Cliff and F-I-T. The Bible tells us in...

    Clutch Fork Assembly

I know I need to remove the cover on the belt pulley to access the (3) T-bolts. What is the proper amount that they need to be loosened? Also,is this the same as the clutch facing/driver in your first post? Thanks, Ray

    Clutch Fork Assembly

Cliff, you have the correct idea of the situation. The fork piece that the rod goes down through will move up and down with ease. I just can't get it to move to the right at all because it is jammed against the housing to the left if you are looking straight into the cover opening. This tractor...

    Clutch Fork Assembly

Not sure what you mean. I'm only working with the clutch fork cover and rod removed. I have not removed any of the belt pulley mechanism as I don't think it should be necessary. Thanks

    Clutch Fork Assembly

Help...I am trying to remove the clutch fork (the half moon shaped part) assembly from my 1945 model A John Deere.I already have the cover off as well as the fork rod that slides down through it. I have talked to several people and I know that the fork should just slide out of the housing but...

Looking for a used PTO shield for my 1945 John Deere model A. I already have the flipper shield. Prefer a used unit that I can bring back to life with a little straightening (if necessary) and some paint. Thanks
