    M series plow tail wheel

this the setup you're talking about? Thought I had some setup tips somewhere...will take a look and post them if they can be found. Someone will probably chime in before that.

Has anyone plowed pasture with an MT?

A couple acres with a single-bottom is going to take a while in first gear at WOT. (Consider yourself fortunate if you can plow new ground in 2nd gear with an MT.) Give both bottoms a try before going with a single. You can always take one off. With those small tires, and if your ground...

Has anyone plowed pasture with an MT?

Just did this last fall with the M and an M2 (2-bottom with coulters). Definitely not a sod-busting plow but will do a nice job if your tractor is up to it. Make sure you mow and rake real good before trying it. Otherwise you'll be off the tractor to kick sod on a regular basis. One...

    JD M Head Question?

Do you mean rusted bad like this one in the red circle? (JD Part number M 460T) If this is the one you mean, it's more of a flow restrictor than a standard freeze plug...looks like a washer. Why not replace it since you already have it this far apart?

    Electrolysis Tank Evaporation

Yeah, maximizing the anode surface area is one key to the succes of this technique. A setup like your tank is ideal. The plastic mesh is an interesting idea...I'll have to give it a try next time. For a while I was trying to use electrolysis to de-rust some headlight buckets from a 1929...

    Electrolysis Tank Evaporation

Electrolysis works great on [i:03e544c477]lots[/i:03e544c477] of stuff...including rusty 100+ years old horseshoes fresh from the pasture! But on some things, it just doesn't work so well. You have to try it and see for yourself. Also, I don't think just any battery charger will work. I...

    Generator Rebuilding

If you're in this part of the contry, migh want to check out these guys. They do good work. Have had several electrical units for older farm equipment (generators, starter-generators, alternators, etc.) refurbished by them over the years. Spring Prairie Electric, 6189 170th St N, Hawley...

    oil pump on model M

It's easier to notice the offset on the 'male' end at the bottom of the distrbutor shaft than 'female' end at the top of the oil pump. There should definitely be an offset. You basically have to get the pump installed so the distributor rotor is pointing to the ignition path/sparkplug for...

JD M oil filter housing sealing plate.

Good info here. M-Man, do you use the Fram filter, dealer filter, or something else? Also, if you really want a plate (M88T) you can get a mostly equivalent part from the dealer. When I was rebuilding the tractor, the JD parts guy was really helpful and pulled the factory drawing and...

    John Deere 40 timing

You're talking about installing the oil pump? If so, the tool isn't necessary. This is how I did it on an M which is similar to the 40: Set #1 cylinder at TDC, compression. Install oil pump. Look into the hole where distributor mounts. You should see the slot at the top of the...

    Dual headlight bracket, M

Had a quick look at the service manual and parts catalog... The service manual mentions an option for dual headlights, but the image doesn't show the mounting bracket. (Maybe that's what I am remembering.) The parts catalog only shows the single headlight option with the contoured mounting...

    M John Deere

Can't tell condition from the picture, but if it runs good and you can use it, then you got a great price, IMO. What else can you buy new for $1200? Even if it's just for a hobby, you still got a great price when you consider the crazy high prices people get when parting out these tractors.

    Dual headlight bracket, M

Don't remember seeing the bracket in the parts catalog... but it's been a while since I looked. Yup, the set screws lock the telescoping arms in place. The welds are clean and everyting fits together nicely. If it was a homebrew they sure did a nice job. Here's a shot of the top of...

    Dual headlight bracket, M

Anybody ever seen a dual headlight option on an M? I thought I saw some literature about this somewhere but can't recall where... Anyway, the headlights are mounted on telescoping arms. The telescoping arms are mounted in a tube that is attached to the front gas tank bracket.
