    Thanks for the link John. I haven't dropped the pump on the H yet to see what's going on. The front seal started leaking badly and the pump isn't building pressure like it should, even with a full reservoir.

    Based on the thickness of the ridge at the top of the sleeves, my guess is the ridges weren't reamed flush the last time the engine was overhauled, and the top rings beat themselves against the ridges.

    Farmall Super A Clutch Stuck

    Just throwing this out there, you said you replaced the pilot bushing, and the symptoms/cure you found match exactly what happens when the pilot bushing is not honed after installation. They can be a little tight on the shaft, and free up with a little persuasion, just what you experienced.

    As a follow-up, I talked to my machinist this morning. The spec they use is face of valve to face of head. The old valves measured at .030 - .060 I believe the spec for the later 400 & 450 diesels was .040-.120 The machinist thought this made more sense based on what he had seen with the...
