Well, I guess we'll tear into it tomorrow and see what we find. Thanks for the advice!

bronze pieces in 1370 rear end

Pulled the pto housing to replace some slipping clutches, and found these pieces under the differential. Figured it was the differential side gear thrust washers, but giving it some thought, I don't think there's any way for them to make it out of the diff. Manual shows thrust washers in the...

    Hauling 1470's

My brother made a deal on a pair of 1470's (one of them a Black Knight) out in NW/NC Kansas, now the trouble is getting them back to EC Wisconsin. He asked me to ask here for any recommendations on haulers, and what he can expect to pay. On a somewhat connected side note- I've been tossing...

    OT Grain elevators

Thank you everybody, this is exactly what I needed! Of course I will show the finished product when it's done, going to take a while though. Thanks again!

    OT Grain elevators

I'm looking to build a 4' tall 5" deep model of the outside of an old grain elevator to use as display shelves. Does anyone know what the construction was like on the outside walls of these things?

    JX80 Review and Comments

We bought a 2008 JX80 in January 2011 with 50 hrs (and luckily the remains of an extended warranty). At 54 hrs it started knocking. Bad timing gears, which took 2 months to get from overseas (none to be had here in the states). Between then and December, we had the thing maybe a couple months...

    Topless

With the hot weather here on the West Coast I have seen people already not wearing shirts. Men so far. I never go shirtless, and never will. How many of you go remove your shirts in the summer? Stan

    1370 engine overhaul question

We got an IH 436/466 in the shop once that had the pistons in backwards. There were 2 sets of valve reliefs in them, one machined, and one, shall we say, "custom fitted". Don't know how that thing didn't bend the pushrods, don't know how the previous mechanic didn't hear something wrong either.

Still Cuttin Holes and Patient Waiting Room

Was the hole for the exhaust always that "keyhole" shape? On my 1974 1370 it's oval, about the same size/shape as the muffler. I can't tell if it's original, or if someone did a really good job cutting it out. Maybe they got sick of breaking loose rusty muffler connections to get the hood off...

I am still going to use the CNH orings.

Don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but when I got the aftermarket kit for my 504, I just happened to notice one or two of the O-rings were cracked/cut on the inside. You can bet I checked the rest of them real good! When I was still working at the engine shop, we had at least one JD...

    deckplate bore 504

Any good engine shop should have a tool to do that. At the engine shop I worked at we did anyways. It's not brand/engine specific, just a universal counterbore tool. If your shop will do work on the road, it can be done in frame quite easily.

    1270 tach drive

The threads are 3/4" x 20 t.p.i., I think someone on here said there is a hydraulic fitting size that matches that. Could use one to build a puller.

    Running gears

You might find the occasional Huebner lying around, as they were built in Forest Junction not far from either one of us. They were also crude, but trailed perfect at any speed as they toe in quite a little. Just a warning though if you use them on the road a lot they will eat front tires for...

New valves or can we fix old?

Yep, valves are shot. Being a gas engine where valve protrusion isn’t as critical for compression reasons (compared to a diesel), the seats should probably be reusable after re-facing. It would also be a good idea to have the head resurfaced while you’re at it. But before any of that, have it...
