Ford 850 Overheating - Timing?
Radiator is very clean and can I blow air/water through the fins easily. Belt is tight and fan works fine. Like I said it will only drop temp (and rapidly) when I let the engine slow the tractor while driving downhill. Some other history in case it helps: I rebuilt the carb several years ago... -

Hey soundguy, if he tries to polarize his system can that unstick a regulator? It seems like I followed your advice a couple years ago to polarize my 850, and in the process my regulator ""unstuck" and began to work. -

hualing a haybine
I am wondering if it is possible to hual a 7 or 8 foot cut haybine not sure which model, mabey a 472 or 488 on a car type trailer. It is 18 foot long with 79 inches between wheelwells the wheelwells stick up 9 inches higher than the deck. Can a haybine be picked up with a front end loader or...- BLT

When I rebuilt my carb, I had the same problem. I sprayed lube on all the carb, throttle, and govenor linkages, and ran the tractor a bit. Then started over on the carb adjustments to fine tune it, and the govenor worked fine again. The linkages were pretty gummed up so I figured that one of... -

Worked the 850
Ken, I'm surprised you have to mow in first gear. I can mow in 3rd most of the time. I back it down to 2nd in the tall stuff (over the hood). Mine consists of a lot of weeds and light brush mixed in with the grass though. Do you run the RPMs up to reach the proper 540 PTO speed? -

Worked the 850
Ken, I've used a 6' King Kutter rotary mower on my 850 for several years, and it is heavy! I used to have a snow plow frame on the tractor that I left on year round, and that gave me plenty of front ballast, but that heavy mower really stresses the hydraulics. I added check chains which helped... -

I'm hoping I got air in it when I swapped out that valve control. But I took it out to level some gravel this afternoon, and it does raise now but very very jerky. Still hoping it is more air. -

loud screaming
My 850 used to scream and it turned out to be a cracked manifold. It would only scream at half to full throttle. I thought it was a belt or bearing but finally located the source by holding a piece of conduit to my ear and pointing it to the various engine areas.
