Final drive torque for allis B

Thanks Rusted. I probably use a torque wrench more than a lot of folks just to be consitatant on all the bolts and to get some idea of how far I've gone. I had to fix (file) some damage on this pan like most everything else the previous owner touched so I wasn't sure of the seal. I don't use...

Final drive torque for allis B

I put new cork gaskets on the final drive pan on my IB. Torques to 7 ft/lbs. Right side is fine but left side leaks. Retorqued to 9 ft/lbs. What's the max I can go with distorting the pan or messing up the gasket? I don't like using RTV.

    Splicing a sickle bar

Thanks y'all. I couldn't find the correct nomanclature so I appreciate the "knife back". I did find that a new one is not that expensive so I ordered one. I have a good friend who is an excellant welder so I'll have the broken one fixed for a backup since it's in good shape. Thanks for the...

    Splicing a sickle bar

I have a New Holland 450 sickle mower that I use on food plots. Yesterday the bar broke at the end of the head on the hole for the 4th section. I see there are splicing kits but because of where the break is at I can't use a 2 piece like a lickity split. . The first 2 rivets on the head are...

    WD fuel problem

    WD fuel problem

I have an intermittent fuel problem on my WD. It will run fine for hours even under heavy load then suddenly start to surge like it"s starving for fuel. Seems to be more apt to happen when going up a grade. The fuel tank is clean and even took it off and drained it to be certain nothing was...

    TSX662 carb questions

I tuned up a friends 901 Ford with a Marvel-Schebler TSX662 carb. Couldn"t find a drawing but I assume that the idle fuel adjustment needle is the one on the top of the carb. Right? Tractor idles good with it opened about 3/4 turn. Does turning this needle in (clockwise) richen the fuel...

    961 starting system

Working on a 6 volt 961 that"s not here at the moment. I recall it has a 4 post solenoid. Not being a Ford guy I assume that the ignition switch provides fire to one of the small terminals and the other is a ground terminal that is grounded by the push button switch by the shifter. Correct? I...

    961 starter question

I disassembled the drive unit, polished the plungers, and cleaned the holes. Used a piece of shim stock to keep the plunger recessed during assembly. Not the best design in the world. I noticed that one of the springs was slightly smaller than the other. Is that normal? I put it in the...

    961 starter question

I"m working on my friends 961 Ford starter. Not familiar with Ford starters so would appreciate some help. The drive only moves back about 1/4 inches from full engagement. I disassembled the unit and found that there two small spring loaded plungers, one of which is designed to catch in a notch...

    Ford 4000 model number

Larry - Looking at the Smith's Old Ford website it like they built some in '57 and sold them as a 1958 model year. Since this is fairly low serial number that could be what it is.

    Ford 4000 model number

Since it has the cyclops grill I'm thinking it may be a 961 with a hundred series grill or a 501,601,or 701 grill. It looks like they are the same. Yes? Was the dash panel the same on the hundred, 01, and thousand series? Anything else that might identify it?

    Ford 4000 model number

The tractor isn't here but I don't believe it has the crossbar grill. I'm going back today with sandpaper, magnifying glass, and camera. I'm an Allis guy and we run into the same mix & match so it's nothing new. How come I can't find where to log into this site? I have a password that...
