    Drawbar length. Don't understand it.

DF Many clubs have pre-season tune up pulls, or fun pulls to try different combinations to see results. Also called test & tune in some areas. This is a good way to test your tractor with different setups. Might want to check the air intake stack on your A after setting outside as hornets like...

    13.6-38 vs 15.5-38

All depends on the track! I have been pulling in 4500-5000&5500 for years with 3/4 worn 12.4 F&Roads. We use NATPA rules in our club. Have won points several years in 5000 & 5500 pulling against 13.6 most of the time. Pounds per square inch and balance can sometimes win over tire size , but...

looking for tractor with the most potenial for HP

Late model (1950-1952) John Deere A or B with creeper gear. JD 60 is also good choice. They balance well and can compete well with other stock tractors. I agree with others, need to start with what is around and work up from there.

Newbie. How do I find out how much tractor I have?

At this event they often have a display with a pulley driven dyno. This drives from the clutch pulley. It is pretty accurate from what I hear. You may be able to call the people listed to find out if the dyno will be there. http://www.raevalley.org/ All that said,HP is not all of the formula...

They are the ones with a single gearshift lever. Others have low-high range lever.

    John Deere A front tires

Older A"S had a straight drawbar on the end which might also be about the right height. I have also loosened all the bolts that hold the drawbar yoke to the tractor and shimmed the back two bolts down with washers to change the height. Back tire pressure makes a big difference also.

off topic: what do you all do

Grew up in a farm using 2 cyl. JDs and a few outcast red tractors. Studied electronics in tech school, went from TV repair to appliances, to Telephone Technician for local telephone co. Just to fill in the spaces got my class A CDL a few years ago and drive for a farmer and local fertilizer...

    Building a puller

A good place to start IMO is antiquetractorpullguide.com. Lots of good info and ideas. Check out (google) Northeast Nebraska Tractor Pullers. Pick a tractor that you like! With a few exceptions, Most can be tweaked to pull well and compete, and cost varies with area and available services and...

    John deere B

Second on air cleaner! Remove cap rivits from top of air stack so you can see flow tube into air cleaner. Remove mud from wasps. Gut mesh from air cleaner to open up air flow. Then tune load valve on carb on dyno. For non pulling, find a paper filter to fit air cleaner body.

    farmall wheel weights on JD-A

I don't think they will bolt on. I have pressed steel wheels on an A,which use the same bolt pattern as cast, and I made a set of adaptors to use IH weights on them. I think they are easier to handle, and are narrower than most JD weights. Also ,with 4 holes I can add as many weights as necessary...
