    OT--Strange how people react

I agree with Skybow. I was in a restaurant awhile back and it was really busy. There was at least 15 people waiting for a table and there was a man that had finished eating and he sat there over 30 minutes reading the newspaper.

    Round bale cotton

In 1948 my dad bought a new "A" john deere and the first cotton stripper that the J D dealer got in. In west Texas we stripped cotton instead of picking it. The stripper took everything off the stalk. Bolls, leaves, stems and everything. The gin separated the burrs and trash from the lint. We...

Didn't International Harvester import a tractor in the 1960's or 70's from England that the motor turned counter clockwise?

I bought my first semi truck in 1960.It was a 4 axel 14 wheeler, A 2 axel tractor and a 35 foot tandem axel Lufkin trailer. I could gross 60,ooo pounds gross. Texas did not allow 18 wheelers that grossed 80,000 pounds until 1962. I was hauling cotton seed and grain from West Texas up into...

    OT...machines of a dif type....fun time coming

I did a lot of motorcycle ( motocross) racing in the 70"s and raced motorcycle engine karts on asphalt until age 65 and owned a 1941 j3 cub for 25 years. I live in Phoenix and have never even seen a snowmobile in real life. They look like they would be a lot of fun.

Fluid for tire. Need gal info

I am retired farmer here in Az. and my neighbors and I always did all our own tire work. My John Deere's used 20.8-38 tires and we put 2 gallons of anti freeze and water in each tire. We were at 4500 Ft. elevation and the coldest temp I saw was 15 degrees below zero in 1979. 2 gallons of anti...

gwstang and others missed my point on PTO

I have posted this before and I don't think a lot of people believe me. When I was 14 years old I was out behind the barn unhooking a blade from the 3 point on our 8n. I swung my right leg over the seat behind me to try to kick the lift arm off of the pin. I had on a pair on wet Levis that were...

If you put a Sherman step down gearbox on a 8n it would slow the speed of the tractor but would it also run the pto snow blower too slow?

    Ford 6000 commander

I was always told that the same guy that designed the ford select-o-speed trans also designed the John Deere power shift transmission. I owned John Deere tractors with power shift trans for 30 more years and never had problems.
