Hey guys, I was just out piddling around with my new 2N and found that it has a six blade fan??? I didn't know that Ford ever put a six blade fan on a tractor, my Ferguson has a four blade. Is this just an after market farmer add on, or is it actually something special? ALSO, just found myself a Sherman step down for $100, tractor hasn't run in 20 + years, but I though that sounded like a good deal. :) Can I rebuild the Sherman and then stick it in this three speed ford, or is it not really even worth it because it is a three speed? THANKS, Bryce

Hey Bryce I have 3 8N"s The two from So Texas have 6 blade fans and the one from Wisconsin has A3 blade.I think the 6 blade was A dealer option.and neede here in the hot climate Wi my former home,it was felt not to need the 6 blade fan.But when doing hard summer work it would have been better with the 6 blade,as we know 4 is cheaper than 6 Mr Ford knew it.
Have fun with your N be safe George

The Sherman will make your tractor a LOT better behaved - 1st gear and reverse on ALL of the N's is simply TOO DANG FAST!!!

Ain't that the dadgum truth! Trying to go backwards with a box blade is tricky when going about 30mph...or at least it seems so...lol. Man, if i had a sherman step down and you had a feather up your behind...we'd both be tickled!

A 2N with step down is well worth your time unless you have a 8N in your future. 1st, 2nd, and reverse is where it will do most of the work. gfi

SO if I was to stick this Sherman in the tractor, how complicated is the4 process to put a sherman in a tractor that has never had one? I know you have to split the tractor, but do you then have to make all sorts of modifications, or does it just slip in? And then how do you drill the hole for the lever to go through on the left side? Thanks, Bryce

I will simply bolt right in where the normal input shaft is. It will require a split.

I believe there were different types of shafts, straight cut vs. helical, so make sure that both components will match.

You can cut the hole with a hole saw, cast iron isn't really all that hard. What will be a little more difficult is making sure the hole is in the right place. A rubber grommet will finish it off nicely.
