    No, by design the float and needle will shut off fuel once the predetermine level has been reached. But leakage past the seat is a common problem with these carbs, which warrants shutting off the fuel every time to avoid the problem.

    The OP says he has a 'sending unit' so I would assume that is just using stranded wire from the sending unit to the gauge. You can splice an extra length piece in there as needed, but for cleanliness sake why not just spring for a new length of wire? BTW I also use a non mechanical water...

    Thanks for all the great input. Drinking it all in now and will let you guys know how it turns out. As it stands now I'll try Dell's suggestion, drill the end of the crack to keep it from creeping, V it out and JB weld it and drive the dang thing.
