    I have a complete '57 2 ton with 2 speed that I might be willing to part with. You'd have to take the entire truck - it was running when I parked it 2 years ago - 261 with 5 speed and the same 2-speed as yours. I'm in the middle of Washington State.

    The very first GMC V-6's used a single barrel. Until they were converted to a 2 barrel, they didn't have the power to pull your member out of a pail of grease. As for your truck, as long as you don't destroy anything so you can't go back, give it a try.

    I agree with JW. I had the same problem with my '48 GMC with a 235 6-volt. The starter was drawing too much current. Rebuilding the starter fixed it.
