    8N discharging battery

That’s good news then. The voltage regulator is only $35 from this site. Cheaper than a new generator for sure. Thank you I know the previous owner of the tractor. I bet he hooked up the battery backwards at some point. He was telling me today that he had a 12 volt battery in it for a while.

    8N discharging battery

1950 8N with a front mount distributor. It has a pretty good power draw when the tractor is off. It will kill the battery in about 2 days. When you hook up a new battery or jump it the generator spins. I’m assuming there should be a diode or something to keep this from happening? The tractor...

    Hyd cylinder broken end

Ok. So I’m adding the angles/sliders to the push plate to keep it from rocking forward and backwards, and hopefully take some stress off the hyd cylinder end?

    Hyd cylinder broken end

It had washers to take up the slack on either side of the rod and keep it centered in the pusher

    Hyd cylinder broken end

I have this hydraulic cylinder on my wood splitter. The end broke off. What is my best option here besides buying a new cylinder? It only needs to push. The force on it when retracting is very small. I think the side to side forces are what broke it. Like when a chunk of wood is slightly...

JD 425 random diff lock engagement

The part circled in red I have as P/N M117909, and the other spring is P/N M117024

JD 425 random diff lock engagement

Ok thank you. Are you talking about this spring or the other one in the pic?

JD 425 random diff lock engagement

I recently acquired a JD 425 from a family friend. He got an E-mower and gave me the JD. Anyways, when I’m mowing sometimes the diff lock will engage. I can tell because it starts sliding the front end. Haha. Then if I drive it a little bit there is a clunk and it disengages. The diff lock...

8N shuts off after running for a while

I appreciate the help guys. I’ll take some readings with the meter when I first start it to get a baseline. Then as soon as it quits I’ll run through the list of things to check real quick. I have not done anything with the ballast resistor. I should check that.

8N shuts off after running for a while

I’m not sure which brand coils they sell on this site. I got the “non script” version. My father replaced the key switch on the tractor probably ten years ago. I’m not sure what he used for that. I was reading another thread last night and saw that mentioned as a possible culprit for my...

8N shuts off after running for a while

Here are the details. It’s a 1950 8N with front mount distributor. We use it for mowing a small field. After running for about an hour it will just shut off. If you let it sit and cool down for an hour or two it will run for another hour. It’s only used a handful of times a year. It’s been...

    Block heater location JD 790

Yeah I’m hoping that’s not my only option for this engine. I’m thinking the adaptor is because the coolant passage isn’t deep enough for the heater element. Going that route makes it a bit more expensive. I’d have to buy the adaptor, and I’m assuming it’s only available from JD

    Block heater location JD 790

Doing some more research, there might be a plug behind the starter. At least on the 850 there is. I was reading another thread where you have to remove the starter to get to the plug.

    Block heater location JD 790

That’s the pic I was looking at originally. I saw those plugs on the pump side of the engine. Seems like they’ll be harder to get at with everything that’s going on on that side. And it looks like they have an adaptor to install a threaded plug where the knock out freeze plug is? I’ll have to...

    Block heater location JD 790

I want to install a block heater on a 790. It has the Yanmar 3 cyl diesel. I was looking at a parts schematic and it looked like there was a threaded plug I could take out and install a block heater. It was supposed to be either 3/4” or 1”. What I found on the engine was different. On the...
