    Help identifying a horse sweep

I guess this is from before tractors but still farm related. My Uncle was just given this. We are told it was called a horse sweep, or horse power. It appears that 4 horses would be hitched to it and walked in a circle, turning a series of gears which then turned a shaft. I was seeing if I...

    Rollomatic question

Ok. Searching around a little I see that the heavy duty version has 4 bolts on the one cap where the regular one has 3. Mine has 4 so I must have the heavy duty one. I'll have to look at the 730. I thought I had read there was a heavy duty rollomatic. I guess I figured the wheel spacing would...

    Rollomatic question

My brother has a 730, I have a 720. Both have Rollomatic fronts with 7.5L-15 front tires. On the 730, the tires are almost touching at their closest point. On the 720, they are spaced apart. Both sets of wheels seem to have the same offsets. And both are bolted on with the dish the same...

    Paint/sealer inside homemade flatback?

Thanks for all the replies. That's kinda what I was thinking (that it didn't need anything) but I wanted another opinion. It's obviously not going to rust inside. I didn't know why the castings all had a coating though. What you said makes sense.

    Paint/sealer inside homemade flatback?

I'm making a steel flatback for my 2-cylinder. Does the inside need painted or sealed with anything or leave it bare steel? If so, what do you use? Thanks

    12v pony, update

I need to adjust the throttle on mine. It always starts the big engine though. They certainly scream. Book says 4500rpm I believe. Crazy!

    12v pony, update

Thought I'd post back in case anyone was wondering how my 720 pony motor is making out on 12 volts. I've started the tractor a dozen or so times so far, no issues yet. I honestly can't tell much of a difference it how it spins over. I installed the smallest battery cables TSC had, I believe...

Is JohnT still on here? other electrical guys?

Thanks for the help. I'll see what it shows on my meter. I'll add, I hold you nor anyone else responsible if I let all the smoke out of the wires. Hahaha!

Is JohnT still on here? other electrical guys?

That looks right. I didn't notice any writing on the one I have but I'll check again. I just searched 12v to 6v voltage reducer on Amazon and that's what came up along with some ceramic looking resistors like I already had.

pony to electric start conversion on JD.730

My father in law has a 720 that was converted to electric start. It works fine. Looks ok. You can tell obviously that it was converted and not factory but if you're just going for functionality it does the job fine. We are in Maryland. It rarely gets in the 20s here, and this is a parade...

Is JohnT still on here? other electrical guys?

I'll try to attach a photo of what I got. It was labeled as a 12v to 6v voltage reducer. It's slightly bigger than the original ceramic resistor. Hopefully it's the right thing. I'm a roofer by trade, I'm just winging it here, ha! I have fun at local pulls with this tractor. It's tweaked a bit...

Ok I'll try it hooked up then. Thanks for the response.

Is JohnT still on here? other electrical guys?

I have a 720 diesel with a pony motor. I just put an electrical tester on the output side of the resistor that then feeds the pony distributor. It's showing 6v, just like the wire going in. I was thinking the resistor dropped it down to 4 volts? Or does that only take effect when it's...

    4.5 powertech hp ratings

I have a 4.5 Powertech out of a compressor (4045df150 I think is what the sticker says). It's naturally aspirated and has a factory rating of 80hp. My father-in-law has a 5425 with a turbocharged 4.5, which tractor data also says is 80 engine hp. Is the difference in hp just from the...

A Tractor Pull With No Pullers

Ive only been to 1 antique pull so far this year and it was normal, but I have noticed the state and regional level pulls around me haven't had as many pullers this year. I'd say a little more than half the usual numbers.
