    Help with 8n hydraulics please

Well, today must be my lucky day... I grabbed my camcorder so that I could video inside the inspection cover. When I started it up, the lift went right up and is working just fine again. Must have been dirt plugging up some intake holes possibly? I guess the best thing to do right now would...

    Help with 8n hydraulics please

Forgot to mention - there is one other "test" I did.. I removed the hydraulic test port plug with the engine off. (Not much more than 1/4 cup of oil came out). I then turned the starter over with the key off, PTO engaged, trans. in neutral so that the starter would essentially turn the PTO...

    Help with 8n hydraulics please

I have been using my 52" 8n for backblade snow plowing. The other day, after lowering the backblade, the lift arms just stopped working out of nowhere. Prior to this, the hydraulics have been strong (I used a 3-pint bale spear and moved over 300 round bales this last summer) and never exhibited...

    Sherman combination tranny

Take a look at this page: http://www.oldfordtractors.com/screbuild.htm It shows how to rebuild the combo transmission, as well as mentions probable causes to many problems, such as popping out of gear and grinding gears.

    9n pto

What you are hearing is likely not the PTO at all. As the hydraulic pump cams wear, they will knock as they contact the pistons. If it were PTO related, or bearing related, I would expect noise both with and without a load. Below is a quote from http://www.oldfordtractors.com/rep.htm

Gardening with the 9n/2n/8n? Advice wanted

This year I have acquired a 1949 8n, and a 1952 8n. Next year I would like to start a large garden and would like to use my 8n as much as possible. I have plenty of land, so garden size is not a concern (I.e. i don"t mind leaving lots of room between rows for easier cultivating) My questions...

Sven update – He is done!!!!!!!

Wow, that is really nice looking! I kind of like that you varied from the normal color scheme - that metal flake blue would have also paired very nicely with a deep black on the tin! Maybe one of my future projects will include some experimentation of color

engine degreaser vs carb cleaner on wasps

Starting fuid! They drop dead almost instantly (I just killed a bunch a couple of weeks ago myself) I got this tip from a friend and was amazed how quickly they dropped dead from it (just a couple of seconds) Of course, you also have to keep in mind how flammible it is

    8N differential lock

I would pull at least one axle and look at the inside end of it. I"ve seen where the 2 axle ends were rubbing on the inside because the bearing prload shims weren"t installed correctly. A set of axles I just pulled out of a 1949 8n were rubbing together quite badly - though i"m not quite too...

Upgrading an early 8n to have both axle seals?

Also - if upgrading to a dual seal setup isn't possible, are there any upgrades for these early 8ns like the Sure Seals for the 9n?

Upgrading an early 8n to have both axle seals?

I'm working on rebuilding a 1949 8n which only has the single axle seal. What would it take to convert it to the newer style that has both an inner and an outer axle seal? (I'm hoping it would only take a new axle, as they are worn and need replaced anyways!( thanks!

    Dearborn loader model differences?

Does anybody know the differences in model numbers amongst the various Dearborn loaders? I currently have a 19-61 that came on an 8n (I know this is supposed to be for the NAA, but it was already mounted on the 8n) I'm picking up a 19-42 tomorrow. My goal is to mix and match the 2 by using the...

How does a hillbilly move his teardown?

That would be very cool indeed! Actually, turn it around so the PTO is still on the end, and do some magic inside the transmission so you have a 1:1 ratio perhaps. Interesting idea!
