MF 230 Gas Fuel Tank and Clutch Questions

Just picked up a Massey Ferguson 230 gas. It’s missing the fuel tank and the mounting brackets that go with it. Would anyone be able to send a picture of what the mounts look like so I could make some, going to check out a few junk yards nearby but there’s not many masseys in our area so I’m not...

    Ford 9600 motor weight?

Anybody have a rough ballpark on the weight of a 9600 motor with all the accessories on? (Manifolds, turbo, flywheel, clutch)

    Ford 8730 powershift locking up

Calibrated the 8730 today and now everything works perfectly fine, I didn’t try to move it in lower gears before I calibrated so I’m not sure if it fixed itself or if the calibration fixed it. I’ll attach the numbers for the F1 (4/9), F2 (7/6), and R (7/4)clutch packs. Not entirely sure what...

    Ford 8730 powershift locking up

I did buy a manual for it luckily, I’ll do some testing tomorrow when I have more time and post back here with some results.

    Ford 8730 powershift locking up

Started up the 8730 to bale and in any low range gear in forward the tractor will drive forward maybe 10 feet and something in the transmission locks up and stops the motor immediately, in reverse it really struggles to move so I haven’t driven in reverse much. High range forward (10th and...

    4020 Clutch

1965 if I remember correctly. He got that whole clutch assembly as one piece, it was all put together and ready to bolt on. I believe he followed all the steps on the papers the clutch came with and a manual he has, and yes I did get that wrong, the stud is on the drive fingers. I did drive it...

    4020 Clutch

Need insight on what you guys use for clutches on a 4020. Buddy of mine put a brand new hy-capacity clutch in after we did a full rebuild on the motor. Its had 600 hours on it since rebuild and it’s wore out the pto clutch fingers once (they are not riding on the release bearing when the pto is...

    Ford 7600 head gasket

Not very long after we bought the tractor it went to the dealer for a problem with cylinder 3 I don’t remember what the problem was because I was 10 at the time but they put a new rod and piston in, and had the head off to do that obviously. My guesses are that the head was either improperly...

    Ford 7600 head gasket

Our 7600 rowcrop blew the headgasket. As far as I know it has the factory 256 motor. Are there any differences on the 256 motors I need to look out for when buying a top end gasket set and head bolts for this motor? And am I better off getting parts from the dealer or a reliable parts website?

    Tw25 FWA stiff steering

I had the same issue with my 8730 for a few minutes, it cleared up after driving a bit. If you had the top cover off to change the seals for the shaft you have to make sure that top cover is aligned perfectly so it doesn’t bind.

Ford 8730 power steering orbital valve

If I remember correctly the seal I used had about half of that sticking up past the metal sleeve. Is that seal in the picture the one you got off the website you sent in the last post?

Ford 8730 power steering orbital valve

Thank you, I’m going to clean it all off tomorrow. If I find it’s the big seal leaking still I’ll go ahead and get that one.

Ford 8730 power steering orbital valve

I did replace that one, I used the smaller 1.776” seal, the kit comes with a 1.9” seal that’s way too big for the valve I have. It stood proud of that metal sleeve and crushed down fine from what I could tell. The metal sleeve measures perfectly 1.75, should I have used the 1.9” seal? Seems...

Ford 8730 power steering orbital valve

Just resealed the power steering pump and orbital valve on our 8730. Put it all back together and the orbital valve is dripping the same way it was before I sealed it. I torqued everything to spec from an online manual I found, the bolts on the bottom cap are a little over 16.5 ft-lbs (my inch...
