    2n back fired

You might also want to check for side play in the distributor shaft. A worn bushing will make it impossible to set point gap. Timing will be all over the place. KL

    A Bunch of NAA Questions

I'm a bit out of my element. I only have an 8N and a 2N, but here goes nothin. The hot idle oil pressure around 8 psi sounds pretty good to me especially considering how inaccurate some of these gauges are. Idle oil pressure is not nearly as important as the oil pressure you see when the engine...

    8N parts sources

Quite a few parts are available from this site. Look in the left navigation menu, at the top, "Marketplace" and select "Tractor Parts". Most of what you might need is there. For the hard-to-find restoration parts, get the Dennis Carpenter Catalog and the external_link Catalog. Both are incredible...

How tell if tractor is too hot?

Every engine that has ever overheated on me burped a little antifreeze where I could smell it or see the steam. Once or twice it was a BIG cloud of steam! The gauge only confirmed a condition that was already obvious. In some cases, the gauge was still indicating normal temp, either because the...

    8n Sidemount 6v EI

I still think the most likely cause is heat messing with your fuel delivery. However, the 6 volt breakerless modules can get flaky if you have not shined up the connections in a while. Shiny battery terminals are important but also all of the wire terminals and the inside of your ignition...

    8n Sidemount 6v EI

The most likely cause is the heat cooking the fuel in the fuel line and/or carb. With the engine off, the fan is not turning, water and fuel are not flowing. The heat quickly builds up in some areas before everything starts to cool down. The additional heat can cause all sorts of problems like...

Correction: Rotor binds on Distributor Cap

The least expensive to fix reason for that is the screw locking the timing adjustment can be too loose, or perhaps too tight and keeping the breaker plate out of line. Try tightening or loosening that screw a tad and see if that FREEBEE fixes the problem. Another one is the "cheap cap" problem...

    dang ethanol!

I gave up on my gas weed whacker and went back to the "green" one for work more than 50 feet from the house. It's a brush cutter (blade on a stick) that just uses arm power, GRIN. For the stuff right around the house and barn, I got an electric one. Not as much power, but no fuel to pour or...

    98 dodge ram 5.9l won't stay running

Hey, SoundGuy! Sounds like the idle air control aint workin. First, I'd look for a loose/cracked vacuum line somewhere near the idle air control. Holding the throttle open with your foot is obviously correcting an idle circuit error. My fingers are crossed that it is just a vacuum line throwing...
