    SC head casting numbers

    The 5618 head is the low compression head. The 5617 is the high compression head. You will be much happier with the 5617. I have replaced most of my 5618's. The valves are the same, only the combustion area is different. It is easy to tell by looking.

    The splines can be sharp and it is real easy to damage a new seal without wrapping the splines with tape. The same applies to DC'S.

    I would never pull a tractor with a stuck engine, especially a D series. The rods a quite long and bending them is quite possible.     I have found that once you flood the engine [SC] the plugs will not fire right again even if they are new. Even drying them out with a torch will not help. It must be the stuff in the new gas.
