    1010 not fireing ?

My 1010 decided to stop running one afternoon, when I was busy trying to run my rotary mower! Well with a quick field check of things I determined I had no spark to the plugs. When I pulled the distributor cap off, the little carbon post from the cap to the center of the rotor fell out in...

John T-or anyone- Starter free running voltage

I will add two things to REALLY muddy the waters! First is the effect of friction in the starter motor. Even the best of bearing still have some drag on the armature shaft. Second is called CEMF -Counter Electromotive Force. This is a reverse current inherent in the armature when it is...

    John Deere "A" Crankshaft swap

I am sorry that I misled everyone. My concern is just what you expressed. The gear on the clutch - meshing up with the first reduction gear is the main concern. I am using the crankshaft AND the clutch pack from my parts tractor. The reason is that hopefully they match. The original...

    John Deere "A" Crankshaft swap

The oil seemed to loosen all the heavy gunk that was previously attached to the crankcase floor and walls. The old pump plugged up and quit delivering oil to the crank, the rods, and other vital places. The motor siezed up and quit. The crankshaft is fully grindable. Looks to me that a good...

    Installing crankshaft and camshaft

Well here is the rest of the story - My 1950 "A" had a problem with oil and the tractor seized. I disassembled and removed the pistons and crankshaft. Lots of gouge marks on the crank on the #1 piston side. SO not I have a new crankshaft ready to go back in. THE PROBLEM I face is putting...

    52 JD -A - Needs rings!

That is on the list of things to check. I need to clean the entire crankcase, there is babbit splatter everywhere. and of course check ALL oil lines! Last choice for me would be to take the parts A pistons, use them, and bore block to .125 over and reassemble. I guess time wise, that might...
