    '57 640 Ford Tractor

Ok, Your the master on this subject I guess. Ill just sit back and read from now on. Maybe I"ll learn something. Been in tractor repair for over 35 years and I still don"t know anything I guess but that D-17"s seal isn"t spinnig anymore I guess. Cheaper fix than buying a new bearing retainer if...

Many times but not on a 640. Not many Fords around here I guess. Just finished one on an Allis D-17 with a loose fitting seal.

Where would one find the serial number on a 4000?

Both 4000"s should have the number in the same place. I said transmission but clutch housing or bell housing should be the location on the right side.

Where would one find the serial number on a 4000?

Look for it on the top of the transmission.

Tractor doesn't have a lot of power

Yes it could. And if the point gap is off the timing will also be off. Both can cause power loss.

Tractor doesn't have a lot of power

Sounds like timing may be off. Set the points to 0.015 will a feeler gauge.

    Ford 2000

Too much air and not enough gas. Gas flow restriction somewhere or vacuum leak somewhere.
