    550 governor shaft seal

    I have read comments about not being able to find a seal for the governor shaft on the 550. I did some measuring and digging and found that a 11mm shaft/bore , 23mm OD, 7mm thick seal is perfect. Check Ebay. $6.99 with free shipping. Seller is pugsley336. Very quick shipping!

    550 PTO MORE INFO.

    I have a 550 also. I rebuilt my clutch and resealed everything inside bell housing. The pto still turns when disengaged. I can easily stop it with a 2x4. That is generally the case with 550s. Hook it up to some pto driven equipment and run it for a bit. Then check it out.

    550 oliver

    I had the same issue with my 550. I built up the missing teeth with brazing rod. Then I used a die grinder with a new cutoff blade to get the teeth close. Finally I filed down the built-up teeth back where it should be. That was a few years ago and it still functions properly.

    Run the return hose directly into sump, . Way less restriction. Avoid having the oil return through the coupler. This will help to not add to the heat already generated by the moving oil through the motor.

    I am in need of a checkerboard grill for a 550. I would be willing to purchase one that is cracked or needs some repairing required.

    550 gas starter

    The 550 diesel starters are more common for some reason. Check out Maple Springs Farm or DB Electrical. Brother put one on his 1755 a few years ago and remarked how much faster it turned over.

    Winter has done-in my 550 gas starter. Is there a permanent magnet drive motor for this application. They are more compact and easier to install than original. I see there is diesel one available.
