    8n valve seat

I think I need to do some work on my valve seats. Long story but I have a 1951 8n with new valves but the seats were lapped. But low compression and not coming up when I do a wet compression either. So my question is, if I choose to use a valve seat grinder tool, should I be concerned about...

    8n rings seating

I have a 1951 8n that has a rebuilt engine. New pistons, rings, sleeves, valves ( valves were lapped) , bearings, etc. the problem is I have low compression (~85 per each cylinder). And the engine runs a little rough. Will hesitate on take off. I have checked all the electrical (at...

    8n freeze plug replacement

Can anyone explain the best way to remove a freeze plug on a 51 8n. I'm sure it's easy, just never done before. Thanks.

    8n paint sealer

I have a 51 8n that I painted about 6 months ago. I wanted to get some feedback on if I should spray a sealer or gloss finish on the sheet metal and the cast to help with fading etc. and if there is any downsides to doing this. Thanks

    8n hood/radiator problem

My problem is that my radiator neck doesn't stick up quit enough for the wing cap to go on. Needs about a 1/4 in more. This is a new hood and doglegs due to the bad condition of the old ones. Also the radiator is new. From nnalert. I have already raised the radiator up using an extra...

    8n paint question

i painted my 8n sheet metal with a small foam roller. It looks ok. It has a slight rough finish to it. Was wondering if buffing it would give it a more smoother finish. Or any other ideas. Thanks.

    8n running rough

Yes. But it doesn't seat very well. Maybe I can put some grease on it to help seal.

    8n running rough

Yes. I have done everything I can think of. It's a 6v system. I have checked timing , points , coil ,carburetor etc. just can't figure out why it's running rough. It's not real bad , just more noticeable at idle. Only thing I haven't checked again is the valve adjustment.

    8n running rough

Dell. Yes I used the 3 ring and staggered them. Sorry for sounding so stupid. I didn't realize that it took a while for the rings to seat. Would this have anything to do with engine sounding rough? Thanks for the help

    8n running rough

Ok. Thanks. Yes the are adjustable lifters. I adjusted them per the manual before during rebuild. But I will check again. Is this normal for them to need adjusting again ? Thanks

    8n running rough

The engine has about 15 min of run time since rebuild. Could the rings not seating be the issue ?

    8n running rough

I had a previous post about my 51 8n running rough. So after doing all that could on the ignition and the carburetor, I checked compression. Reading about 90 on dry and about the same on wet test. This is a newly rebuilt engine. I would have thought the psi would be higher on a new...

    8n running rough

I did check for air leaks as best as I could and no change. I sprayed carb cleaner around and nothing. My plugs are black like they are getting too much gas.

    8n running rough

What an I do to check this. I have already swapped out the new points and condenser with another new set. And then it wouldn't even crank. So I put the other ones back in and it started up again. I'm getting 2.2 ohms on the coil and 6v on the points while they are open to the terminal on...
