    Yet another 8N backfire issue

Autolite 85 plugs I guess to help out the next guy, I'll tell on myself. The problem was the plug wires. I replaced them when I rebuilt the engine last winter but the wires to #1& #2 had cracks in them all the way to the wire. I replaced them and it runs fine now. I guess there's two...

    Yet another 8N backfire issue

I rebuilt my 8N (12v Conversion) last year and it generally runs OK although is tricky to get the choke and throttle set to a point where it runs smooth. I get an occasional backfire through the exhaust and had a leaking exhaust gasket. I replaced the exhaust manifold gasket, cleaned the carb...

    Electrical (Solenoid) Gremlins

I finally got my 8N back together after engine rebuild (12v conversion, front dist.) Installed new solenoid, key switch and wiring harness (per JD Prod video). Squirted a little gas in the carb and got it so pop off and run for a few seconds. Today I had to install a few oil lines and...

    Small Threaded Plugs

So, for posterity or any other ignorant newbies; The rear plug was no problem as I have the motor on a stand. I had the motor pretty much assembled. Head on, oil pan on, exhaust manifold on. To install the front plug I had to remove the front cover, then rotate the engine on its side and...

    Small Threaded Plugs

One plug fit in the rear opening, so I'm guessing they didn't. Cam has to come out as well. Dang. Never too old to learn stuff I guess.

Thanks, I guess the front cover is coming off again:(

    Small Threaded Plugs

What are these and where do they go? They were in the box of small parts the machine shop removed when I had my block worked.

    Motor Tight After Rebuild.

Crank spun easy. Even with pistons in it was easy. Rear seal made it really stiff.

    Motor Tight After Rebuild.

Sent engine and crank to shop for re-work. Crank turns freely. After installing pistons it was fairly easy to turn. The rear upper oil seal made it quite a bit tighter and after installing the oil pan and front cover its pretty tight. I am a little concerned that the starter may not have...

    8N Crank in 9N Block

To answer my own question and help out the next newbie that runs across this; The crank oil seal retainer is what I was missing. It was in the box with all the other small bits the machine shop pulled off. A fella ought to learn something every day.

    8N Crank in 9N Block

My 8N front dist. block had a bad crack so I sourced another but after looking it is a 9N block. Will an 8N crankshaft and oil pan work on a 9N block? I was getting ready to install the oil seals and the back seal area of the 9N block looks different.

    Clutch Fork

8N had very little clutch pedal travel and was barely functional. Adjusting the pedal made it worse in both directions. Looking at the clutch fork. It doesn't go all the way to the stops with the clutch pedal all the way up because the pedal arm contacts the running board. Should it? I'll...

    8N Governor Body

I have heard the bolt horror stories! Yep, I have heard the bolt horror stories!

    8N Governor Body

And down the rabbit hole we go. Decided to freshen up the engine on an 8N I bought last year. It ran and operated fine but has low oil pressure when hot which seems to be common. While waiting for the machine shop I'm fiddling with other stuff. I disassembled the governor which seems to be...
