    shimming rod bearing

Are you sure that the knock is a rod bearing? Pistons knock when cold. But if is is the rod I would mike the shaft first, to see out of round(not more than 1/2 thousandth), how much down, and if that is good go ahead and shim with a new bearing and you may be able to get a .001 or .002 bearing...

    8n bearings

Yes, from a automotive machine shop they are called pal nuts, or go to self locking nuts. Yes, to roll out the main brgs use a nail head in the oil hole and rotate the crank to remove the upper half, or a skinny screwdriver.

    Quadrant adjustment ?

I now have a carb that runs good, idles a little high, 6-800 but I have to open the throttle arm about 40% open before I can get any rpms going. Governer works good. I have adjusted the long rod longer and shorter without much difference. My spring is about 0 tension on the gov. I am just not...

    Tire Chains

Can anyone recommend where to buy tire chains for 11.2 X 28 running on a black top driveway?

    stuck seats

You can use a C-Clamp to remove the keepers then pry out the springs with a large screw driver, now you can raise the valves high enough to get a punch or screw drive from the top to pound down the guides, then you can remove the horseshoes. Now you can pound out the guides.

    Boring 8N cylinders?

When you pull out the 040 sleeves you do not bore, you will hone a little to use 87.5 pistons, thus called 090 over. The next plan can be to just install 040 wall sleeves if the holes are not too distorted and you can get 001 press. the next plan is to bore cylinders out to use 090 wall sleeves...

    Crankshaft

The large end of your con rod is spun in or is distorted and needs to be reconditioned. just as important as the crankshaft being on size. The machine shop cuts the cap and rod at the parting and now it is egg shaped. Now they hone out the rod until round and on original size.

    Hairline cracks in cylinder walls

If it was mine I would bore cylinders out to oversize or 90* wall flanged sleeves, then use a sleeve retainer chemical, or loctite and install with 001* press fit. there is probably distortion in the old cylinders when you get the sleeves out. Now with the press fit you can hone slightly to get...
