Convert MF 165 Power Steering to Manual

I have a MF 165 with a worn out hydraulic cylinder. Leaks enough oil to go dry in about two hours. I use this tractor to run a round baler and since I've been kind of using it without power steering anyway, was considering converting to manual steering. I've never seen a MF 165 with manual...

    641 3 Point Hitch

I have a 641 that I use to sickle mow hay with. The sickle mower is 3PH mounted. After working a while and the oil is all hot the 3PH won't always lift the mower. Sometimes I can get it to lift by working the quadrant back and forth and other time I partially flip the draft lever under the...

    Massey 165 Loose Steering

I have a 1968 MF 165, S/N 9A-54790, Detroit production model. The power steering still works but takes regular top up of the fluid reservoir because the main rod seal leaks so badly. I know there is a little slop in the pins but they do not look badly worn. The steering wheel will tun about...

    641 Radiator Fluid Level

I have an owners manual and shop manual. I don't find where the fluid level should be when checking it. Did I miss it or what? It has fluid capacity but that is all I find.

    641 Emergency Brake

Yes, the brake lock system is what I meant.

    641 Emergency Brake

A couple years ago I put new brake shoes on my 641. The old ones did not look that bad but I replaced them anyway. The spring loaded pawl thingy that locks the emergency brake on did not work good before or after the brake work I did. Is something worn in the mechanism causing this or was it...

RE-COUPLING TRACTOR DOING CLUTCH JOB ETC

I have only one clutch job to my name, a 641 Ford. So I am certainly no expert. My lesson learned was to make both halves of the tractor "level" when trying to reassemble. My tractor was slightly down hill before the split due to tire sizes. It split easily but going back together was a...

    electronic ignition conversion

There are certain Ford tractors where EI offers a definite advantage. A Ford 3600 is one example. On this model tractor the distributor is tucked under the intake manifold and getting the distributor cap off to address points problems require removing spark plug wires from the cap just to get...

    clutch

I believe that would be a 15 spline disc. From another post on this site comes this information: A 641 with SN 14256 or below will have a 10 splined shaft. Above that number will have a 15 splined shaft. A quick way to check is if the clutch peddle pivots on the left side of the transmission...

    Sickle Mower Stub Guards

Traditional Farmer, I have the NH 451 mounted mower that is used in hilly hay ground. I have always wondered how a trailer mower would work in hills and irregular shaped fields. Do you have any comment?

I appreciate everyone's responses. You have given me some things to think about.

    Leave Hay in Square Baler?

I always clean the hay out of the bale chamber at the end of season before storage. But during the growing season I leave the hay in it between cuttings (about 8 weeks apart). Am I harming the old baler? Just curious what others do.

No difference, if the one you have is working now keep on keeping on.

    petronics ignition

The same was true for the kit I bought for the 3600 Ford, dust cap would not fit. I didn't think to mention that in my post. Did you get it working?

    electronic ignition

Ultradog has it right. The resister wire begins at the bullet connector under the gas tank near the solenoid. If you use the stock coil you need to connect ahead of the resistor wire and run a separate wire to the Pertronix module so it gets the full 12 volts. Or get a coil with about 3 ohms...
