    Studs

Yes. I don't recall the exact measurements at the moment (I'm at work), but they were identical. Plus, I was able to screw the new bolt into the bearing housing without any problems.

    Studs

I don't think that's it -- here's a picture of what I'm trying to replace. The old one taken off the tractor is on the left (with the nut still attached), the new one that I tried to replace it with is on the right. Picture of studs

    Studs

Yes, and these studs are not there. They are also one of the few parts NOT identified by part number in the FO-4 service manual.

    Studs

Has anyone replaced the studs that screw into the bearing housing on the rear hubs, and that then slip through the holes on the axle housing? I tried to replace these studs with auto studs from the hardware store, but when I went to reinstall the hub and axle, the studs did not line up with...

    Replacing Bearing Cup Studs

I determined that the studs I used as replacements were marked "Auto 1-M", but I don't know what that means in regard to their strength or propensity to bend.

    Replacing Bearing Cup Studs

I"m having trouble sliding the hubs for my 2N back into the axle housing and think it"s because the studs I installed in the bearing cup have bent (I had bought replacements at the local hardward store, and may not have bought a high enough quality). I don"t see replacements on this site...

    Axle and Hub

Charner: I don't have any problems with the brake shoes -- the backing plate slides onto the hub easily. It sounds like I need to just keep banging away at it. I'm prettty sure I replaced the studs with the same size, but would there be any downside to replacing them with longer ones (going...

    Axle and Hub

I have a 1944 2N on which I"ve pulled both axles, replaced the exterior and interior oil seals, the Sure Seals, the automotive studs in the bearing housing, the brake pads and hardware, and have cleaned, sanded, and repainted everything from the axle housing to the hubs and rear discs. Now...

Brake / Oil Seal Project Almost Done -- Two questions.

I went back and reviewed some previous posts on axle work and have an answer to how to make sure they're installed correctly using the shims. Still unsure about greasing the axles before putting them back in the axle housing.

Brake / Oil Seal Project Almost Done -- Two questions.

I"ve got a 1944 2N, and am in the middle of fixing the brakes and oil seals on the axles. A machinist friend of mine was able to pull the bearing housing off the axle, I"ve cleaned the grease and oil off of everything, and we"ll be pressing replacement seals and the bearings back on, packing...

Rear Axle Bearings and Exterior Seal

Hobo -- Thanks. I just don't see the point in doing it and not doing it right when everything's out anyway. Your post was one of the one I had previously seen but can't do much with. I just don't have the ability to build something like that, and was hoping to find the tool referred to in the...

Rear Axle Bearings and Exterior Seal

Sorry. I first wrote that as a response to another post about a 2N and forget to add it when I had to start a new thread. It's a 1944 2N.

Rear Axle Bearings and Exterior Seal

I've been able to get the interior oil seal off (by drilling and chiseling), but cannot figure out how to get the bearings and exterior oil seal off. The manual says to use an appropriate bearing puller but one is not sold here, and I can't find one that would fit over the axle anywhere else...

Question re: Axle housing and grease

My brakes had recently stopped working on an old tractor I had bought -- with the hubs full of grease, I figured there was some leak and planned to pull the axle shaft, install Sure Seals, and replace the brake shoes, springs, etc. When I pulled the axle shaft out I was surprised by two things...

    Brake Issues

The brakes on my "44 2N have stopped working. They used to bring it to a full stop, but after a summer of dis-use (while I figured out some problems with the electrical system), the brakes now barely slow it down. I jacked it up and adjusted them per the manual (tightened them until the wheels...
