Converting from 6 volt to 12 volt on my Ford 9n

You need the #A8NN12250B resistor no matter what. ALWAYS use that. Whether or not you need the other resistor depends on what coil you're using. If the original 6v coil, yes. If a 12v coil, no. Don't know what you mean by "step up". Post your questions on the Ford N board here and you will get...

You should read the fault code(s) that triggered the check engine light. That will give you a clue .

back to one wire late 8n side mount

Thanks for clarifying what alt you have. Autozone should know what they gave you (we hope). Yes, the wiring diagram you're using is correct. Sorry, I don't have a clue why your voltmeter is swinging like that reading across the battery.

You're right JMOR. I didn't consider that there might not be a cap on the vr connections. I wish we knew the history of this alternator.

back to one wire late 8n side mount

Can you post a pic of the back of your alternator? It's hard to help you if we don't know exactly what your working with. Randy

back to one wire late 8n side mount

I have been following your posts on this problem and am quite convinced that what you have is a 3 wire alternator. If it looks like the pic you posted earlier, it is NOT a 1 wire, but rather a 3 WIRE.

TE20 GREY FERGIE TRACTOR DISTRIBUTOR PROBLEMS

I agree with Duner Wi. A new cap and rotor should cure the problem.

Ford 8N Hydraulic Raises on it's own and sticks up

I run GL-1 in my 8N year round in northwest Pennsylvania. In the winter, the hydraulics are pretty sluggish until I get her warmed up good.
