    Wouldn't this bypass the safety interlock on the transmission? This keeps the tractor from being started (electrically) while in gear...

    Short recap: Last week, I went to change a solenoid on my 1947 8N, and the upright threaded post on the starter twisted off... Decided to remove starter also...Searched net for 6-volt starter...Found brand new India Made starter w/bendix for $92 delivered from DB Electric in TN...Ordered...

    I figured you had looked at that... Years ago here, there was some talk of a batch of manifolds from India that would open an internal crack between intake, and exhaust over time, but I doubt that is your issue... Wish I could help more...

    With the breather tube off, I assume is sucks your palm to the carb? You can have compression, yet little vacuum due to a cracked manifold, blown gasket, etc...

    Yes...The post that the solid band attaches to from the solenoid...Copper/threaded, and snapped clean... Any replacing this without removing the starter?
