    Te20 rear tyre valve

Thanks for this- looks like the top one. If its a standard schrader valve like a modern car thats great news- Ill extract and fit a new one. Great stuff.

    Te20 rear tyre valve

Went to check and top up rear tyre pressure. On removing the pump the tyre valve will not shut, despite poking the valve pin and despite turning this way and that with a valve removal tool. Suspect valve is broken- is the whole screw in valve unit replaceable or is it just a case of removing...

MF35 23c smoking engine breather pipe

Doesnt look like it- engine oil is black, transmission oil is caramel. Neither look milky- dont think water is present in the engine oil.

MF35 23c smoking engine breather pipe

I don't think so- will double check tonight and see if the engine oil looks milky

MF35 23c smoking engine breather pipe

The old girl smokes (white) quite heavily from the engine breather pipe. She is producing plenty of power for my needs with a 4ft topper. I suspect this is a sign of worn piston rings but I'm reluctant to commit to a full rebuild if I don't need to. Am I causing further damage by continuing to...

    MF35 Steering column problem!

This was really helpful- thanks. The last chap had made a real dogs dinner of it with a heath robinson fix that had damaged the threads. I was only able to nip up the top nut (with the o ring) as tight as I could by hand (with the shaft rotated out as far as it would go) or it would jump off the...

    MF35 Steering column problem!

Howdy folks, Just purchased a 1958 MF35 (23C diesel) to keep the grey Fergie company. The steering wheel needs replacing and I have taken the old one off without any difficulty, but the thread (on the column) for the steering wheel nut is badly threaded. The wheel doesn't seem to sit as far...

How do I test the distributor?

So.?...I replaced the condenser, points (checked gap), and coil and still no spark. Rotor arm looks fine, so does the spring bush that contacts with it. Loads of life in battery, turning over very well. Ignition switch works. Still no spark!!!! Any thoughts???!! Thanks- the nettles are growing!

How do I test the distributor?

Not too much joy I'm afraid gentlemen, still no spark but: Have cleaned the points with mild emery cloth and checked the gap- 0.25mm as per manual No voltage across the coil when the points are closed, 12V across the coil when points open 2.9 Ohms resistance across the coil, 5.2 Ohms out of the...

How do I test the distributor?

Howdy Folks! I went to start up the old girl after a while lying idle. Turns over enthusiastically with the new battery. No spark to plugs. Tested ignition with volt meter, works OK, getting 12v to both sides of coil and out of the top of it. Spark plugs themselves are fine. Must be the...

    1949 TEA20- Spark Plugs

I know there are similar threads but I cant seem to find just the answer I am looking for. I run it on straight petrol and am trying to find the correct sparks to use. I had intended to replace the current NGK BR7 ES (3/4" thread) with Champion N21 (3/4" thread) Is the Champion the correct...

    TEA20 Low Power

Low on power. E.g. when topping (new 4ft flemming- set highest) needs to be in 1st or 2nd, and struggles up light incline topping thistles in first. Can't manage 4th on gentle incline with link box (raised) 1/2 full of gravel. TVO mix is good. Oil good, but pressure drops to about 20 when hot...

Partial 12V Conversion, retained 6V dynamo and starter

My new TEA20 was not charging its battery, so I took off the 6V dynamo which turned out to be shot. I got it fixed and correctly polarised (positive earth). I then looked at the rest of the system, and all the parts (battery, regulator, coil, sparks) are 12V except for the dynamo and starter...
