    Gleaner F to buy or not to buy

    Probably a 13" bean head. IMHO i think its one of the best 4 row combines ever made. My dad had a F in the 70"s. I dont remember what the gas consumption was on his. His had the Chevy 292. Get the black corn head. A430 Is the no. if my old brain is working right.

    Using longer pickup tines on JD535 hay roller

    Most of those early rounders had poor pickups. NH would be the exception. Those teeth are supposed to run just above the ground not on it. Do you turn your hay before baling that does help.

    E 85 ???

    85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Been a lot of controversy over it. For automotive use you need to have a flex fuel vehicle. Some people have used it in old gas burnin tractors with a jet replacement or adjustment.

    I always liked the 10" furrow myself. Kind of hard to get in the Gumbo sometimes. That stuff doesn't like to be turned over. 5 x 16s behind 150 hp and it was a tussle.

    I see the lit. says as deep as 14" but it would take a horse and half to pull that 3 x 28" plow. Some rumors are hard to kill.

    301(IH) combine engine hydraulic pump.

    I can"t be of much help. I did change one on a 715 belt drive about 20 years ago. I remember it being high priced. After the changeout it would pick the cornhead up anyways.
