I regret telling a friend I would replace the drive belt

Well, I'll be in your shoes on Friday! X300 series 42 inch deck throws belt. Also, my friend is a salesman, so it is really hard to think while he is talking. We will see how it goes. Should be my last drive belt too. I sometimes think about going back to work. They give coffee breaks and the...

'47 John Deere B oil filter cap stuck

I had what seemed to be one gasket put in on an existing one left in there. Both very hard. Some penetrating oil or brake cleaner might help if your cap is stuck to the gasket, or even has some rust up there, if the tapping does not succeed first.

    Magneto coil or condenser?

Easy to test a condenser and a coil with a multimeter.

John Deere 60 clutch handle wobble.

I got a tool loan from Advance Auto. (Pay and then get entire amount returned.) It was a ball joint puller if memory serves. Pulled that bolt out like it was a stick of soft butter.

Air cleaner, half the price, same store

The foam filter should have some oil on it. Too much and it will wet the paper filter, which is not considered good. I try to go easy with the oil.

    G Starter

Also where the ground cable connects to the frame must be clean and able to conduct the current. It's usually a battery case bolt on a styled G.

    Block Work

Last summer I had a G block sleeved by Dave's Engine Rebuilding in Austin, MN. 507 438 6944. I was very happy with his work. Also a good contact is Henry at H&J Machining in North Dakota. He seems to know many parts and machine work people. 701 652 3289. Either one of those would give you an...

D-17 misses when warm choke helps

Could be condenser getting warm and not working well. Points and condensor are a team. Had one go bad in a John Deere 60 just last summer. Also one in my 54 Chevy. That was many many summers ago!

    One hand wire stripper?

I have a GB (Gardner Bender) GS-394 that is metal and works quite well. Home Depot, Ace, Amazon, Ebay. Sometimes slips a little on hard slippery wire coatings.

    John Deere G PTO Shaft

I have a 1947 styled G with the 1 3/4 inch PTO shaft. I bought a 1 3/8 inch shaft F953R, but there are only 6 splines on the front end of it so it won't fit into the coupler. Original shaft has 10 splines. I had the idea, and it has been mentioned here, to have the original one milled down to...

Got TEA20 running badly with black smoke

If there was a restriction anywhere in the air intake path, it would be as if the choke was on. Could loosen the air hose to the carb and run with air going directly into the carb to check that.
