    58 ford Workmaster minor overhaul

Thanks to all that helped out, my seized crank ended up I flipped my rod caps from 1234 to 4321, I went on a hunch and that fixed it. I got the tractor running today, I cleaned out the carb but i think i have some issues. It fires up and runs smooth until a load is put on it, not sure the...

Engine rotates very hard after overhaul.

Also, I made sure to put the caps with the correct rods, in the same cylinder, and the oil journal toward the cam.

Engine rotates very hard after overhaul.

I replaced standards with standards, the bearings that came out were not worn at all, I did not mic the crank.

Engine rotates very hard after overhaul.

Got my new pistons in, once I torqued down my rod bearing caps, it takes an enormous effort to turn the engine. Is this normal? It does not seem right. I torqued the caps to 45-50 ft lbs. Thanks.

    641 workmaster piston install

Very helpful photo, but, my cylinder does not have that mark on the top of it. Is there another mark to look for??

Each piston has a green dot, I think this means that the dot goes towards the front. Is this right? Also, one of the pistons has the dot on the opposite side of the piston based on the part number and "STD" stamp on the top of the piston. Do I Go by the dot or the imprint??

    641 Cylinder Head

I'm taking the Head to a shop tomorrow. Not sure what caused the hole in the piston, no damage anywhere else. Each piston has a small divot engineered in the center of it, number one went all the way through. Not sure what would cause this. Thanks to all.

    641 Cylinder Head

I have ordered a set of pistons, rings, bearings, bushings, and gaskets etc. I have a hole in piston 1. I have the tools to replace the valve seals in my head, most shops want 200 dollars to go through the head for me. Is there a "Do it yourself" method of checking the head? The head is very...

    58 641 Ford

Your knowledge is appreciated. My plan is this; Replace all four pistons, rings and wrist pins. Replace bearings on both ends of the rods, and have a shop go through the head. Pretty much what you are saying. I slept on it, and while i am cheap, i also dont like doing things twice...

    58 641 Ford

That makes sense. Every engine kit i see comes with sleeves, i wasnt sure if that was a standard practice, my cylinder walls are in good shape. So I need Pistons, rings, do i re use the wrist pins, bearings?? Thanks.

    58 641 Ford

I bought this tractor for 1100 bucks. I was told it was a 57, but based on the serial number I think its a 58. Anyway, it was described to have a "miss". Cylinders 2,3,&4 have 95 psi, I had no compression in cylinder #1, I tore the engine down to find that the head is in great shape, and i...
