I wouldn't put too much thought into the tires. A tractor that age (mid 1980s) even if it only truly has those hours would very likely have had the front tires replaced. If anything, I would expect the rears to have more tread than 50-60% with that number of hours. Also, from what I recall and... -

throttle grommet
I typically just spit on it and work it over the "ball" on the end of the lever. Soap would be great but I don't keep any over in the barn. A dab of tobacco juice works great. -

Ford 5000 questions
I pull a 15' Rhino SR15 with my 1972 5000 diesel (about 3900 hrs) and she pulls it quite well. You have about 9.5 pto hp per foot in which case the tractor shouldn't hardly know the mower is back there. Something just isn't adding up here. I assume you are in low range when you say 2-3 gear. -

It will work OK for farm applications. I have this transmission in a 1982 545 and really like it. You do give up a couple of forward speeds in comparison to the 8x2 but having 3 very usable reverses (4th rev. is pretty fast) as opposed to 1 usable reverse (on the 8x2) is what I like for box... -

tell me about a 515
The 515 was a 1976 replacement for a 4400. It is the same tractor with the exception of the 2 lever 3-point hitch controls. It does NOT have the "hard nose" like the 3500/3550/420/4500/535. It would be a great tractor to add to the stable. -

4100 vs 4000 SU
The 4400 industrial always had the inverted U straight beam front axle with truck type king pins. The 3400 and the very rare 4410 "woods tractor" as well as the later 335 and 532 "woods tractor" utilized the high arch cast I beam non adjustable axle. 1973 Ford model 2000
I've seen many "original" tractors with the blue centers. My 1972 5000 with original paint has blue centers. It seems like most with blue centers are from the early 1970s because by 1975 and certainly by the _600 series in 1976 everything had white centers. I kinda like the blue, too. -

think I officially like my 5000 better'n my 7610S
I'll second that. My 1985 6610 low pro will make the ears ring after a while running the batwing. I do love these older Fords but quiet they ain't. -
