I am looking at 340 with the 6x4 trans.Has any one had any experience with this trans. It seems like it would good in the loader application, but what about farm application.
 
It will work OK for farm applications. I have this transmission in a 1982 545 and really like it. You do give up a couple of forward speeds in comparison to the 8x2 but having 3 very usable reverses (4th rev. is pretty fast) as opposed to 1 usable reverse (on the 8x2) is what I like for box blade work and mowing in tighter areas where I back up alot. Keep in mind that in the 1950s and 1960s, 4 & 5 speed transmissions were the norm in small farm tractors.
