    FIXED.... I think. Multimeter on battery with tractor off showed 12.8V. With tractor on 12.8V. Alternator not putting out. OK it's running on the battery. When it cooled and started again I happened to push on the positive cable at the starter. Tractor stumbles. Wiggle the cable restores...

    Maybe I am a bonehead but there is just one resistor on the firewall. It's ceramic. Been that way for 12 years. What makes you think I have 2 resistors? Curious. Thanks for thinking about it.

    Agreed on it shouldn't have any difference. I guess what stumps me is it'll start and run then quit. Starter will not engage. When it cools it seems to start and run for a short time. It's the quitting part that bugs me... when it quits running I get no starter function. When I get starter...

    Tractor has been farmerized. It has a key ignition switch and a push button to start- neutral switch bypassed. I get 12V on both sides of the key switch and one side of the push button. Other side to frame ground. Multimeter shows 1.6 ohms that bleeds down to 1.1 ohms across the new resister...

    OK metered the Tisco ballast resister. Starts at 1.6 ohms and drops down to 1.0 ohms.

    OT (pardon me for assuming)

    It's crazy if you ask me. I took my Expedition in at 100K for a transmission service. They said it didn't need the filter changed and a flush would be best. I told them I wanted a new filter and had to practically choke the service writer to get them to drop the pan and change the filter.
