    Hydraulic piston rings which way

I believe that's correct putting the washer on the bottom side. My stuff came with a leather back up ring. And I had one heck of a time getting it big enough to slide on the piston. Soaked it, boiled it, oiled it, finally had a old shower head slightly larger then the piston and slipped it on it...

How do You Determine +/- Ground?

If you have one of the old tractors like mine a 8n its a positive ground. Positive post to the battery terminal that gets grounded to the frame or engine. The opposite of modern equiptment. What happens when you do the opposite I can't say but I'm sure some one will tell you.

    position control?

I seen another question about the position control selector and remembered I have a problem with mine. Put it in the up position, the position I think I should be using for bush hog work, and it just raises the lift arms up. Not that I moved the quadrant to up, in fact I can put the quadrant...

    8n at work

Whats amazing is the little trailer carrying that load. I wonder if it would transport the tractor, now that would be a picture.

    light, gum solvent?

Im thinking you are very close. Turpinetine was a common product on the shelf. So they would have called it that, but it is probably a close relative of turpintine.

    light, gum solvent?

Thanks Bruce I was trying to think of the name MMO. I guess I could put half down the carb and half in the oil. While waiting for hydraulic parts I changed the oil. Had to do it cold because the trans was drained. There was alot of sludge. I felt sorry for the old girl.It will take many oil...

Oil weight for Ford 8N Tractor

I heard of people using a 10w-30. I think that would work for cold weather. Where is the cold weather at?

    light, gum solvent?

In my Operations manual page 43 it recommends pouring 1/4 pint of a light gum solvent down the carb as the engine is running. This is supposed to quite noisy valves especially if you have found sludge in your oil pan. I remember we used to do the same on cars using ATF. It was also supposed to...

    8N-- No spark

After that gets fixed better get "some fresh gas and maybe clean the carb. I just have a feeling..

    PTO

It maybe that you did not purchase a over running coupler but instead a adapter fitting the smaller pto shaft of the tractor to the larger splines of the more modern implement. And maybe the roll pin snapped when you stopped and the mower blades kept going. GA Dave sent a picture of the ORC if...

    OT- Air Conditioner unit relay

Any one with experience with the Mitsubisi Type system? My AC is nearing the end, has been requiring fill ups every year. Now the R22 for it is going for $300 a bottle, vs about $65 a few years back. Second problem being that rodents get into my attic space, must be working there way up from...

    8N died won't start

I had a problem like it, was a broken wire connection on the inside so I could not see it. Check for voltage at the coil as Bruce says and work your way back to the key switch. Move some wires to see if it changes. A simple test light works well for that. Good luck.
