8N-- No spark

My 8N was running a few years ago and now it has no spark. I am using a Sears timing light to check for fire and the strobe light does not light up. The distributor is nice and dry inside
and I sanded the points. I swapped the condenser
with a used one from a 1970 153-cu.in Chevy II
4-cyl motor, but still no spark. Should I try a new set of points and condenser? This is a front mounted distributor and I have 12 volt juice on
both sides of the coil.

Thanks for any help,

Barry

Barry.......condensers are almost NEVER the problem. They are either bad outta the box ...or... they burn yer points. Condensers are coil specific, not cylinder or volts specific.

You write......"My 8N was running a few years ago and now it has no spark"......thats a long time for points to stay good.

Definitely try a new set of points. They gitt invisible corrosion that stops the sparkies. ......Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

I agree with Dell replace the points. Any time points sit for a long time they corrode and once that happens they do not work unless cleaned well and sand paper is not the way to clean them since it leaves sand behind and sand does not conduct electricity. Now if you have used a points file then that may have worked. I keep a points file hanging on the wall so it is easy to find when I need it. By the way a points file cost about a buck

Thanks Guys,

I kinda thought you might say points.

I then said where do I find them locally?

I tried Tractor Supply and BINGO, they

had a complete tune up set.

Thanks again,

Barry
