    john deere A governor

If the bottom finger is touching I'd guess you may have the arm on the top that links to the carb. too far on the vertical shaft thus holding the shaft too high inside the case. Make sure the pointed bolt that secures the control arm is nestled into the detent in the vertical shaft. Ted K

    4020 clutch noise

My 1965 4020D w/syncro-range makes a strange growling noise- SOMETIMES- as I engage the transmission clutch but only if the PTO is disengaged. If the PTO is running, no noise. The transmission clutch doesn't slip and there is no noise once the clutch is engaged. The PTO clutch did slip once last...

    4020 radiator

Thanks for the advice everyone. My neighbor put an China made aftermarket radiator on his 4320 and it was fine for a year or so, then sprung leaks. I can get mine recored at a reputable radiator shop just 25 miles or so from here for ~$450. The guy at the radiator shop made a good point...

    4020 radiator

My 4020 deisel is in need of a new radiator. I clicked on "tractor parts" here on this site and found the radiator for my tractor. Anyone have experience with them? Are they good quality or would I be better off with a recore of my radiator? Thanks. Ted

    bevel gear noise

I have almost the same issue with my A. The rear fan shaft bearing went out on mine and the gears got damaged. I found what was supposed to be a set of matched gears. I didn"t see them assembled as a "set" so maybe they were not matched. Anyway, I carefully filed the burrs off the heels of each...

    'A' fan shaft

I lucked out and found a good fan shaft for my late A at my local bone yard, two miles away. Putting in new bearings, seals and will set the bevel gears according to what I have read here in the archives. It"ll probably out live me now! Thanks all for the replies. Ted K

    'A' fan shaft

Thanks for the replies. The shaft w/o the pump accomodations is the same length as my original shaft, only difference is the length of the 3/4" gear end. I can have that turned and a keyway cut and the old girl will be back the way it"s supposed to be. I"ll go through the pile of fan shafts at...

    'A' fan shaft

My late A with the roller crankcase vent pump has a bent fan shaft. It"s just a bit off "true" at the gear end, maybe why the bevel gears went out. Anyway, I located a fan shaft and a matched set of gears locally but the fan shaft has no pump on it. I suppose I could have the shaft turned to the...

    DBG Roosa- Master on 4020

Thanks for the replies guys. The service manual and seal kit and flex ring are supposed to be here by Friday. I didn"t want to tear into it w/o the manual. Until then, I"ll check everything you all mentioned. I have had the little timing cover off in the last month or so to sheck the timing...

    DBG Roosa- Master on 4020

I"m hoping some of you with experience can answer a question about my DBG Roosa-Master. Yesterday I started my '65 4020 and it revved up to about 1500 when the throttle lever was set at idle. I gave the foot pedal a tap and the engine settled down and I used it for a couple hours on the hay...

    Pulling knotters off 14T baler

There are large cotter pins with shim washers by each of the gears that have to come out. Then unbolt the casting hold-down bolt so you can slide the casting on the shaft. You have to get the half-moon keys that drive the gears out of the shaft before the shaft will come out and you do this by...

    Power-Trol idler shaft

Thanks for the replies. I wasn"t aware JD still had the shafts available since they no longer have the bushings for the gear. I"ll check it out as well as adding an oil line. Ted K

    Power-Trol idler shaft

Do any of you know of someone or some supplier that makes the Power-Trol idler shaft to fit a "60"? I can have bushings made for the gear but would presume the shaft is hardened. Had thought of making my own and hardening the surface with carborizing compound but that would probably only go...

    Vicon 1210 twine mechanism

I'm trying to help a neighbor figure out what's wrong with the twine guide mechanism on his Vicon RP1210 baler. He has no manual for it so we're w/o any diagrams or explanation of how it is supposed to function. From looking at it as we turn the nylon/plastic wheel by hand, the guide is supposed...

    4640 Axle Knee Thrust Washers

On my 4020 the same thing happened so I drilled new holes for new roll pins. Problem solved.
