'A' fan shaft

My late A with the roller crankcase vent pump has a bent fan shaft. It"s just a bit off "true" at the gear end, maybe why the bevel gears went out. Anyway, I located a fan shaft and a matched set of gears locally but the fan shaft has no pump on it. I suppose I could have the shaft turned to the size for the rotor and a keyway cut but, will there be problems if I just go w/o a vent pump?

Get a breather assey off of a earlier (A), the type that was screwed on the oil fill, first reduction cover and screw it on the crank case oil fill, should be ok.

You need someway to remove the fumes from the crankcase. Carlyle has given you a "Redneck" way to accomplish this. If you would use the classified ads in the upper left corner, you will find the correct assy, or there is one on Ebay for $65.00 plus shipping.

Thanks for the replies.

The shaft w/o the pump accomodations is the same length as my original shaft, only difference is the length of the 3/4" gear end. I can have that turned and a keyway cut and the old girl will be back the way it"s supposed to be. I"ll go through the pile of fan shafts at our local bone yard tomorrow just in case we overlooked a correct one.

I did the same thing with my A when the blow by got to be too much for the fume pump thing. The "breather thing" got the fumes out just fine with no noticeable smoke out of it or around the pulley where the fumes had come out before. The fumes never showed up until the tractor was working rear hard anyway.

I lucked out and found a good fan shaft for my late A at my local bone yard, two miles away. Putting in new bearings, seals and will set the bevel gears according to what I have read here in the archives. It"ll probably out live me now!

Thanks all for the replies.
