    M Generator Test

John, Thanks for the reply. On the motor test, it does spin up and run, but stops when I disconnect Field from ground. The switch has good ground, I cleaned up the surfaces and checked continuity before starting. I can recheck the polarity of the cutout, but I paid attention so I think...

    M Generator Test

Hi, I am trying to get my charging system working on my M. I installed a new Brillman harness and a new solid state cut out. The generator was "supposed" to be rebuilt. The tractor is running again but no charge in any switch position. I do see a discharge on the Ampmeter with the lights are...

1948 Styled D Low Oil Pressure (video)

Just wanted to close the loop - I turned in the pressure adjusting screw five turns and now at idle I have between M and H pressure. Full throttle is close to H. My rod bearings are new but the crank bearings have not been checked so maybe they have some wear.

1948 Styled D Low Oil Pressure (video)

Bill, I took out that ball - it is rough and probably not seating but I believe that this has nothing to do with pressure. I think it's a check valve that prevents the oil lines from draining when sitting allowing oil to lubricate faster on startup. I will replace the ball however. Good...

1948 Styled D Low Oil Pressure (video)

    Engine oil is brand new.

1948 Styled D Low Oil Pressure (video)

I did a little more digging. Drained the oil and took the small shield off of the top of the filter housing. It looks to me like the pressure regulating screw is backed all the way out and it seems like this is where the air is coming from when I inject via the pressure feed tube. It also...

1948 Styled D Low Oil Pressure (video)

Howdy, I have just gotten my Styled D running and it has low oil pressure. Just barely above the Stop line at full throttle. Verified with another known good gauge. I have been reading other posts about the same issue and did some troubleshooting. I pulled the crankcase cover and blew air...

    Styled D Oil Change

Could someone help me with the procedure to fill the engine oil on a Styled D after changing the filter? I seem to remember that there are two fill and level check locations one on each side of the tractor, but I can't find the information anywhere. My I&T book does not go in to detail...

    JD D Radiator Overflow Tube

Can anyone help me source a new 1948 (styled) JD D radiator overflow tube? I tried Farm Power Restoration and he is out of them. Thanks!

Styled D Head Bolt Lead Washers

Are you saying that with the head in place you double nutted the studs and removed them? That would be fantastic to not have to remove the head. Bad enough I have to pull the radiator and valve cover...

Styled D Head Bolt Lead Washers

I literally can't remember if thread sealer was used. I don't even remember if the block came back from the machine shop already installed or if I installed them! When your neighbor removed the head to seal the studs, did he install a new head gasket then, or reuse?

Styled D Head Bolt Lead Washers

I have a 1948 Styled D that I've been working on off and on for about three years. I had a cracked block/head/lower rad tank when I bought it. I had a different block magnafluxed for cracks and sleeved for some .045 over pistons that came with the tractor, a different head completely rebuilt...

    Late D Radiator Overflow

Does anyone know if the "Connector" pn D2996R is being reproduced? It is the big nut that threads into the underside of the upper radiator tank. It accepts the packing and the overflow tube goes through it. Mine was frozen to the tank and it broke off. I would be interested in the whole...

    M not cooling

Hi, I started a rebuilt engine on my MC for the first time today. After about 3-5 minutes of running, I noticed that the upper hose was hot and the lower hose was cold. There is no pump or thermostat on these so I am scratching my head! My first thought is that there is a plug somewhere but I...

    3 phase converter

You are correct, you can convert to 3-phase with a 3-phase motor, but for your application, a walk-in cooler, that needs power all the time is not suited to a rotary phase converter (motor). You need a solid state phase converter. These are more expensive and I don"t know of any DIY sites on...
