What's the preferred method of online payment, nowadays?

As Dunner said above.
When PayPal required our bank account, we opened a separate account at the bank, unrelated to our checking or saving account. The bank assured us this was safe to do. So people send money to us with PayPal and it sits in that special account until we transfer it to our checking account.

Paypal for me buying and selling. It's linked to a special bank account similar to what others have described. I've sold about 1000 items on eBay and purchased several also. All using Paypal beginning in '99 I think, maybe 98. No issues at all.
I have had a couple of scammers hit my account but was able to get refunds.

Recent was a onetime debit from a company I've never heard of. Bank refunded the debit immediately when I filed a loss report with them.
A few years back a company in Las Vegas started a monthly debit on another account, claiming we had signed up for a computer security service. Bank was no help other than stopping the debit but wouldn't refund. But a letter to the company with a copy to the FBI computer fraud division, las Vegas sheriff and police department got a full refund!

I don't think that Paypal was in any way involved. More likely was someone with a criminal mind got their hands on one of our checks. Then used the routing and account info on EVERY check ever written to start the scam. Checks in the mail are a real risk IMO, much more so than Paypal.

Exactly.

We do the same with e-Transfer.

There’s always a risk with any type of transaction, even cash.
I only got took one time using PayPal for a small amount and somehow the transaction was non disputable even though ai did not use friends and family
With most transaction that can be disputed there is a charge for services, so who pays that should be agreed on before the transaction is completed
I don’t sell much on YT but I have yet to have a member send me a bad check
With the number of reports of people getting robbed from Craigslist face to face cash transactions I’m a little hesitant to agree to that on a large amount deal
PayPal friends and family and Venmo are two I will absolutely not use

I have a pretty big stack of old manuals I'm wanting to sell from horse drawn implements up to 1970's both tractor and implements, plus some industrial and trucks. I used to be active on ebay...used to be, but when they split from PayPal I pretty much stopped selling. Plus the C thing hit. I haven't looked at my PayPal account in a year or more. I'm now on a few Facebook pages that sell those things. What's the preferred method of payment? PayPal, venmo? How is it done today. I'm not totally against a plain old check.
Eh, I think PayPal is kind of bad for this… slow, random holds, and people still delay sending. Checks still happen but man, same story, I waited almost a week once and that was enough for me.

I ended up switching things up after I came across NOSH while looking for faster options, used it a few times and it was way smoother, no chasing people, money just lands and done. Keep it quick and move on.

If you use PayPal to sell make sure the Buyer sends it as Friends / Family OR PayPal will charge 3 1/2%

May be good to accept " friends and family" payments. But never pay for anything using it.

If you do pay using friends and family. You, your bank nor pay pal can do anything to help get your money back if you get scammed. I have saw it happen to a lot of people here.

Was just going to post this! Friends and family has a big downside!

PayPal Friends and Family is designed for personal, non-commercial transfers between people you know, such as friends or family members. It is ideal for splitting bills, reimbursing someone, or sending gifts. Unlike the Goods and Services option, it does not include buyer or seller protection, so it should only be used with trusted recipients.

I'm waiting for his answer, $1.55 a gallon discount? I'm guessing that is a typo.
Not really. We get discounts from the wife's shopping at Giant Eagle for their fuel perks program. Varies depending on how much was spent each month. Discounts are limited to 30 gallons an I can usually get it all in my F 250.

We buy and sell hundreds of parts ,manuals, toys and farmall related items every year. 90% of the transactions are PayPal,zero issues! We do not use friends and family....zero buyer /seller protection using that. 3-1/2 % is cheap insurance.

I use PayPal for all online purchases if it is accepted.
I really do not like giving Credit Card info out.
I have run into places that keep your CC info for convenience when you make your next purchase.
Never a problem with PayPal yet.

I suppose we need to get real. No matter what app you use................your account info is on a server somewhere...............just waiting to be hacked. It's a brave new world.
Nothing new about that. With every check you used to write you gave them the bank routing number and your account number and the exact name on thr account. Checks were a fantasy for security which is why I am a lot safer since I stopped using them. I do not even have checks and life is bertter and a whole lot more convenient. For online purchases I use Paypal for eveything except Amazon and use the Amazon CC for those.

I'm waiting right now for $1265 for a 427 Ford intake on PP. I have it linked to a checking account that I just pay bills with, only put enough in there for that- but when I get a PP payment, I use the instant pay feature to transfer(costs a small amount) then immediately go to the bank and pull it out in cash. Not linked to any other accounts, my other checking is a different bank. BTW, the Silicon Valley complexes are HUGE. I did a job for Facebook at the Mother Ship, rebuilding Willow Avenue- they bought the old Sun Microsystems complex and bought up half the properties along Willow to expand. Built a parking lot at Google- strange place. When I drove through the gate, both my personal and company cell phones went dead. I accidently turned into the ebay complex one day, as it has its own intersection/ traffic lights- it is enormous. Went to do another complex one day, and across the street was the PayPal center. Lots of money down there

I got scamed using Paypal. They got my bank account information. I canceled the Bank account and my paypal account. Had to set up a new Bamk account. My banker said never to use paypal. I am still getting people that try to charge to my paypal account. Paypal wouldn't do anything about it , never will I use paypal for anything.
Well it must have been Paypay that scammed you, as I understand it whoever you are buying/selling from never sees your information, just Paypal, they pay/collect from the other party and you pay Paypal.
