    48 loader

Will a model 48 loader fit on a 70? Aside from using low pressure cylinders, will there be any hydraulic issues such as valves for bucket? My kaput loader used a latch-type bucket and that's good enough for me. Thanks!

    Loader for narrow front 70

My 45 loader suffered a catastrophic failure with the entire right side collapsing and breaking up. There was no other damage except to my T-shirt, which got torn up too. (Note: Never wash a work shirt, it might not rip off when caught by something.) So I'm looking for a loader. Are there...

    Oil into silicone?

I use a galvanized container with a flex spout for adding oil to power trol, engine etc. It's kept in a plastic bag when not in use. The way it's "designed", you can't get about two tablespoons of oil out of it. This settles into the various seams, welds etc. The other day I discovered that...

    Ignition switch

I"m running down electrical bugs on a H, about a 1946. The ignition push-pull switch doesn"t "snap" into the on or off position. It sort of "oozes" in and out with enough drag to keep in in position. Is this normal with a switch of that vintage? If so, was there a reason for it? Thanks muchly!!

    OT shear bolt

I got a new 6' "bush hog" type mower. I put a common bolt in the connection between the PTO shaft and the gearbox. I like to take the PTO shafts off of things for the winter and keep them inside, but the bolt has torqued just enough that I can't get it out easily. Could I safely go to a...

    50*?

Been messing with a 46 H for a friend. It was an all fuel but the plumbing's gone for the little tank and it's run on gas only. As far as he knows, the carb hasn't been messed with, at least he's never messed with it. Problem is that if the temperature's under 50*F, it won't even try to start...

    Which is which?

Working on the electrical of the H. Someone's painted the generator, looks like maybe a couple of times. Can't tell which terminal is armature and which is field. Has original pos ground 6 v gen. Can anyone tell me which is which? Which is closer to engine when it's mounted? Thanks a lot!!

    OT-identify post hole digger

I'm trying to rehab a 40-50 yr old mounted post hole digger. It mounted to the 3-point lower arms only of an A with brackets bolted to the drawbar frame. The brackets also were the attachment point of the lower 3-point lift arms and the digger mounted to horizontal pins outboard of the control...

    OT--metal cans?

Has anyone purchased a 1-2 gallon metal fuel can lately? If so, where did you find one? I'll admit that the world has pretty much passed me by, but surely you can get one somewhere??!! Thanks!

    cracked flywheel

I just discovered that the flywheel on my all fuel 70 is cracked "from one hole to the other" on one side of the hub. It's been that way for awhile judging by the rust accumulation. The ring gear doesn't track quite true, but very close. Flywheel is not loose at all. Can I just ignore it, or...

    Where's s/n 4020

Where's the s/n tag on a 4020? This dummy needs to know!@ Thanks!!

    hard/non-starting 4020

A friend has a 4020D he uses to piddle around a couple of times a year. He went to start it the other day and it took a lot of cranking before fired up. It black/white/blue smoked for 10 min or so and settled down to "normal" smoking on acceleration. He did some chores and ran it around the...

    Generator belt on H

A friend asked me to run down some electrical problems on his '46 Super H. After replacing some burnt up wiring etc I noticed that the belt from the fan to the generator was about "gone". I'm not informed on IH matters, so my question is: How do you replace and adjust the generator drive belt...

    Acetone and ATF

I want to try the 50-50 acetone and transmission fluid "loose juice". I know acetone dissolves some plastics. And most oil cans have plastic somewhere--do I need to be worried about this? Thanks!

    Number 30 loader

A friend has a nice Super H with a No 30 loader on it that would have to be completely rebuilt, including cylinders. His inclination is to take off the loader and junk it rather than sell the tractor with the loader. What do you all think? Thanks, AF 70

    Clutch cap screw-how tight?

The cap screw in the end of the crankshaft came out and caused a bit of excitement. The lockwasher looks a bit flabby so I'm replacing it along with the bolt. How tight should it be? Would using medium strength thread locker be a good idea? If someone has a torque value, I'd appreciate...

    High-lift jack?

Does anyone know of a good quality brand of high lift ("Handyman") jack and where they are sold? The only one I could find was a very sloppy chinee made thing. It's about as safe as a hand grenade. Any info will be appreciated! Thanks. AF 70

    Jacking a roll-o-matic?

What's everyone's "best practices" for jacking up a tractor with roll-o-matic to change a tire? I'm allergic to high lift jacks on the frame, even if I could find one I trust "made in USA". Thanks! AF70

    Loader cylinder kit?

My friend bought an H with a #30 loader on it. I think that's what is it--the kind flip/flops when it's raised. It won't lift much and won't stay up. I assume the cylinders need reconditioning? Are there still kits for these things? Thanks!

    2 ?'s re: 70

    1) On the left side of the cast instrument panel where it's parallel with hood, there are 4 holes. What were they for? 2) Anyone know of an hour meter that would work with a 70? Doesn't have to be stock or pretty, just work reliably under tractor conditions. I'm using 12V negative ground...
