How to start an International 8-16 tractor

Yes, mine is a 1920 and came from the Gary Sutherby sale conducted by Aumann Auction 2 weeks ag. Today I purged the tank and lines. The gas in it was not old. But the fuel lines were. Cleaned all the spark plug gaps, and wire contacts. I checked and there is a nice blue spark. Now for the 2...

    Case 400 orchard tractor

I have a Case 400 orchard tractor. It was restored years ago and still looks really nice. However, it is missing the side shields. I may be able to recreate them from pictures and have a good sheet metal person make them. I just figured they would be tough to find otherwise. Any advice? I live...

Removing rear wheel Hart Parr 18-36

I'm going to remove the rear steel wheel from my Hart Parr 18-36. I took the hub cap off and there are 2 bolts under it. In addition, I see there are also 4 large nuts that appear to obviously hold the wheel on. Can I only remove those 4 nuts to remove the wheel or do I have to do something with...

Hart Parr 19-36 hard to put in gear

I just purchased a Hart Parr 18-36. Did some carb work and got it running nicely. But it grinds when I try to put it in any gear, even if I idle low. Keep in mind the clutch appears to engage and disengage when I pull the clutch lever or push it forward. Any suggestions?

Timing a Cub with dial indicater

I'm helping a friend time his Farmall Cub correctly. I always used a dial indicater to find exact TDC. Should the Cub spark exactly at top dead center? Or should the spark occur a little before? How many degrees before? Last tractor I did was an Allis B and I set it to spark at about 3 degrees...

    JD 40 rear fluid

I use my JD 40 with a 5 foot brush hog to do pasture. Lately I've noticed a puddle of oil under the rear of the tractor. It is slowly leaking from the unit under the seat somewhere. When I went to brush hog yesterday, the PTO did not want to turn. Also, what type of fluid goes into the filler...

where to install the Allis G hand crank bracket

I bought an allis g hand crank bracket from DJS tractor parts. Does somebody have a picture of where and how it gets mounted? I'm tired of holding it in one hand and trying to drive my g to my potato field to cultivate.

Mechanics service manual for unstyled D?

I have a small collection of original shop service manuals for John Deere 2 cylinder tractors. Apparently they were used at the local dealership for repairs. However, I have never seen or heard of one, original or reproduced for the unstyled D tractor. Does anyone know of a source or have a...

Farmall 240 and 340 interchangeable parts

I grew up on a Farmall 240 row crop at my uncle's farm. Fifty years since I first used it, I inherited it, in quite rough shape. I dearly want to restore it as this was my childhood tractor. I have the opportunity to get a 340 row crop. In the pics, it appears to have the same fast hitch, and...

    Removing Allis G head

I took all the head bolts and 4 nuts off the Allis G head in preparation for head removal. The head did not come off; however, do the 2 bolts that hold the center cast water pipe also need removed, or are they independent? I didn't take them off because they were extra tight and I did not want...

    Allis B seat color confusion

OK. So whenever I see Allis B or C tractors, restored or not, the majority have black cushion seats. An older friend of mine, who has farmed his entire life with Allis Chalmers, says that the seat cushion was orange out of the factory, and even has an original B with the orange seat cushion. Was...

    WD-45 shifter issues

Just picked up a nice looking WD-45 gas tractor from a widow, whose late husband last parked it in their garage some 5 years ago. We winched it onto the trailer but when we got home it had a few issues. First, no trouble starting. But when you place it in gear, all you hear is a humming...

Who reproduces this early D part?

My spoker D is complete and ready to be painted- or at least I thought so. Years ago I purchased the metal pipe for it that goes from the air cleaner into the carburetor. It was reproduced from someone-likely from the Green Magazine. But I lost the part and need another one made pronto. Does...

MM ZB 6 or 12 volt? I'm confused.

Just bought a MM ZB tractor from a gentleman here in New York. Before picking it up, I looked up specs that stated it uses a 6 volt system with positive ground. Put the 6 volt new battery in- no spark. Contacted him. He said it started it on a 12 volt negative ground. So I put the 12 volt in and...

Help ID this Allis G implement

I just purchased this Allis G not far from my farm in Binghamton, NY. I've always used an Allis G at my farm and the number of implements designed for this small tractor intrigues me, but this one just stumped me. It's obvious that it has six individual tillers that are raised and lowered...
