    2550 steering problems

Steering started acting up while moving hay. Happened suddenly, both directions. I can turn the wheel continuously, there’s no “wall”. It still steers, but its slow to react and not really consistent. It takes several full rotations of the wheel to turn the wheel, like its getting fluid but...

Deere 2550 coolant in oil question

Noticed milky oil in my 2550 the other day and while looking closer I see coolant leaking from the bottom tube running from water pump to oil cooler. I was just curious if there's any chance these two things are related? I plan to pull the water pump and hope for a bad gasket. I don't know if...

    Ford 3000 horizontal exhaust manifold

Broke the neck off of the exhaust manifold of the 3000 a few weeks ago, and I'm having a heck of a time finding a replacement. The one I had wasn't that old, so I know there are replacement parts out there, at least there were. I can't recall where I got the one that broke. The part number for...

2550 water pump, repair or replace

Water pump bearing went out this past weekend, taking my brand new radiator with it. My garage isn't too sophisticated, I have a press but not a good one. Is rebuilding worth the time, or would I be better off just buying a replacement? Rebuild kit is $50, replacement is between $125 and $200...

    Removing stuck gear

An tricks for removing a gear/sprocket from a shaft? Trying to remove a drive sprocket from a haybine top roller. Initially I had to drive it on further to remove the key and it moved pretty easily. After key was removed I put a 3 jaw puller on it and it moved back to the original position and...

    2550 MFWD steering parts/schematics

Trying to find the right parts page for the steering parts on my MFWD 2550. Im sure Im just not seeing it, but I cant find the page that has the parts circled in red in the attached pic. The joint on mine came unthreaded from the cylinder today. It went right back on, but seems loose until its...

    NH 488 haybine gearbox

Its been about 5 years since I rebuilt the gearbox in my old 488 and I dont remember much other than it was a PITA to get back together. I noticed slop in the input shaft tonight and figure I better get it fixed before it goes and I lose the gears. Is there anything other than the bearings and...

Hydraulic function gone after fixing remote valve-2550

Couple weeks ago I removed one of my remote valves that was leaking and Tim S fixed it up for me. I put it all back together today and I have no hydraulic function at all. No 3 pt, no steering, no loader, etc... What could I have messed up? Ive done this before and dont recall any issues...

    3000 (gas) temperature gauge

The temp gauge on my 70 3000 hasnt worked since I split and took it apart for new core plugs and head gasket two years ago. Always worked before that, so I assume I missed something putting it all back together. Ive tested a few basic things, but not sure what to check next. I have continuity...

    16" tires/ 16.5" rims.

Any thought on putting 16" tires on 16.5" rims, using a tube? My old round balers tires are shot, but buying new ones for a baler soon to be junked is out of the question. Just need something to get me by for a month or so. I already have 16" tires, so it would be great if it would work.

    Slow cranking 3000

Last summer I split my '70 gas 3000 to change out the freeze plugs. Ever since putting it back together, it turns over noticeably slower. It's almost like there's a bind somewhere. It runs fine, though it's a lot harder to start in colder weather because of the slow cranking. I'd like to fix the...

    Leaking front hub, DIY job?

I have an '86 2550, MFWD that that the front hub started leaking a while back. Not much, so I've just been keeping fluid filled, but now I want to get it fixed. I have a service manual, but honestly it's got me questioning if this is something I can do at home. The manual goes though all steps...

    Ford 3000 hydraulic pressure nut

Can anyone explain how this is supposed to grip the hydraulic line? My tractor blew two of these off last night. Now it's going to sit in the field until I get a new one, but there's no reason to think the next one will hold any better. Is there something missing? I recall the original I changed...

    Another Ford steering shaft issue

I have a 1970 3000 (gas) that's been leaking out the steering column for a while. So one rainy afternoon I tore into it, replaced the seal, put it back together, and the steady leak turned into a gusher. Figured I boogered up the seal while installing it, so I ordered a new one and a filter...

    Leaking poppet style SCV

One of the SCVs on my 2550 has developed an internal leak. For example, with the baler hooked up the gate will slowly raise. I've just used the other set this summer but would like to have it fixed. The local hydraulic shop won't touch it, said they can't fix it. So far haven't had any luck...
