    Had my generator rebuilt, mechanic stated i would need a new regulator as the generator had spun all the solder out. I orded a new regulator from Just 8n. The instructions states wire it like the old one,the old one is not labeled field, Batt, etc. but the new one has all the connections on top...

    This is a rerun of earlier on of what i think is a "short problem" but dont know where. Details 1949 8n front mount 6volts useing a test light to find juice I first thought my tool box got against some wires and shorted a wire out as the wire from the bottom post on the resister to the ammmeter...

    Update I went out today and had juice to resistor & ammeter and key switch. Dont know what happen but had short somewhere i'm sure. I got company and had to quit so will try starting her this after noon Thanks to all Roy

    Dell, I got juice from the selonoid to one side of the ammeter, not to the other side and the resister has no juice on any posts. No juice to the key wires, off or on?? Thanks Roy

    My mistake, your right, hot from solenoid to ammeter, from there all is dead. Wired according to FO-4 shop manual Thanks Roy

    1949 8n frt mount. Putting it back together, put the hood on and battery box in. When i turned on the key smoke come out from under the hood. I took the battery box off as i thought this had shorted something. The wire from the resistor to the ammeter had melted. I could see no burn marks on...

    have a 1949 8n 209472 that has a grey painted grill with the upright tubes painted red. Unable to get anything from archives Didn't the 1949 come out with the grill all gray??? Thanks Roy
